I admit that I’m fixated on Tua. The anticipation, the competitiveness, the accuracy.
There is more than one way to skin a cat but I’d rather go for it with Tua. No guarantee at multiple levels but I’d go for it.
Having said that, if I were another franchise, I’d suspect that Haskins is underrated. There are so many meat heads running NFL drafts that they see Byron Leftwich or whatever bias is out there. Remember MLB and the NBA started hiring high level thinkers —often ivy leaguers— to run operations. The NFL is behind the curve and still paying millions to grunt types. It’s a market inefficiency. These jobs should be filled with highly educated strategic thinkers who can obtain data from worker bee grunts and process at a higher strategic level. The fact that this hasn’t happened yet is why there is so much dysfunction in NFL front offices led by meat head logic instead of high level strategic thought process.
Haskins is not a Tua prospect IMO but there’s a lot to like. The one thing that I’d question whether he can effectively redirect in the pocket and that’s a trait I’m tired of looking at.
I’m holding firm and waiting on Tua. Lawrence is out there the next year in case. I’m sure as hell not using my dry powder for the quarterback position on Haskins. Not for Miami which has been in the quarterback abyss for twenty years. We can’t **** around anymore.
For the naysayers that think we can’t get Tua, my observation is fans wildly overrate the roster. This is as crap of a roster as you will see. If you are secretly thinking there is more talent here than is conventional wisdom, you’re overrating the roster. This is a crap team.
Last off season, we had a ton of homers loving where we were headed and using a lot of post hoc rationalizations in group think to convince each other we were secretly doing great. I was never in that camp. It was mismanaged and led us to where we are.
It may be a blessing because it might get us out of the cycle of irrelevance. If you think we aren’t in the running for Tua it comes down to how committed the franchise is. I think Stephen Ross agrees with every word in this post and will be pushing in this direction. It’s achievable unless they go into dumb *** mode.
