Why would anyone take Pitts over Smith?

Didn't he miss the 2nd half of the championship game because he got injured?
Yea, Went out after the 1st possession of the second half after he caught 12 for 200+ and 3TD’s.
Didn’t Pitts miss a few games for injuries as well?

Then what’s your argument for EVERY other player in college? This statement makes ZERO sense. They all play 12 games a year, unless your Smith and a few other teams bc he played 15 a year twice and 14 another year. What’s your point here?

Using your logic you wouldn’t draft anyone, as they all play fewer games and play against lesser competition from week to week. Again, what’s your point?

The SEC thing is wildly overstated? By whom is it overstated, because the SEC dominates in drafted players by the NFL teams themselves. The fact remains he played against the VERY BEST college football has to offer, regardless of conference and dominated. What else you want the guy to do?
My point here is that smaller, slighter athletes who have the red flag of 'not sturdy enough' are at greater risk of breaking down and wearing out.

But I'm sure you knew this, you tried to defend Smith's lack of stature and list of accomplishments because he played in the big bad league that has Vanderbilt in it.

I'm pointing out that your argument has... umm... a few South Carolina sized holes in it.

Nope...Zero holes Jack!
If you don’t like him bc his size, or bc he eats his eggs runny instead of hard boiled...is YOUR opine, and that’s fine.
Dont turn a like or dislike into making false claims.
First, you say “red flags” ...by whom? Those are your claims and some talking heads. I’m not saying the point is invalid, simply counting the arguments with my own valid points. Red flags and concerns are 2 separate issues.
secondly, don’t insult yourself by down grading the SEC as not a dominant conference. I’m not an SEC homer, I’m an ACC fan and I recognize they are a dominant conference. Even in their worst years they are still top 2. But that’s not what the point was, the point was his level of competition and he played against the best so..,,

Well... Fuller has a career long habit of missing a couple of games each year, so that might not be your best comparison.
Yes he does, however, he was the first player who came to mind since we just signed him. What about Parker, Preston Williams, etc.? They all miss games. Size in and of itself is not the singular thing I would base on my decision.

That really didn't prove your point
I have posted numerous times of several players who have had long successful careers with similar builds. Harrison, TY Hilton, D Jackson, etc.
My question was not for validating my point, it was merely a simple question since we just signed him.

Does Will Fullers weight concern you? They’re basically the same exact size.
WF 6’0” 180
DS 6’1” 174
BTW... the numbers you are listing here... they are program propaganda.

Alabama listed him at 175, and most scouts felt it was more like 165... but he refuses to be weighed, and now claims that he weighs 170... which is still below his program weight.

We saw this with Tua... Alabama exaggerated his measurements, and when he showed up to the combine... presto... one eighth of an inch over 6 feet tall...

So, is he 170 like he claims? Good question.

And is he refusing to run because he has put on a few pounds and now lost a bit on his 40 time?

All this ducking and hiding is a really bad look.

Durability is a concern with EACH and EVERY player. However, it becomes a “red flag” only when that player has injury issues in his past. If that player doesn’t have past issues, then those are simply concerns and not red flags.
If you value 2 players at same position to be equal, then the durability or injury concern would be the obvious deal breaker. Most times they are not seen as equal, just as here on FH people have different likes.

If a player didn't have durability issues at school, that's all you can ask for [edit: finsfan beat me to it]. Health is an ability and I don't know size has a whole lot to do with it. Take a guy like Big Ben, who is huge and has constantly missed games throughout his career, while smaller guys don't.

All of that's anecdotal, however. Is there a study showing that smaller guys get injured more often and how much more? If so, then we could define how much more risk exactly we're talking about.

Any of the receiver options seems fine -although if history teaches anything, one or two will be busts. Hopefully we pick the right one.

As far as Pitts, the guy he reminds me of is not Gronk, not by a longshot, but Shannon Sharpe. His ceiling is HoF, no question.

I started to like Smith when I was watching Alabama games when we were tanking for Tua, I watched Juedy drop balls , waddle was good , but when Tua needed to make a play he seemed to throw to this guy Smith. I was impressed by Smith and thought he would be a steal in the draft. I never dreamed that he would become a top 10 pick. That being said I love Pitts , however, he does have concussion issues. Pitts and G cause matchup problems where defenses have a hard time covering 1 quality te and no less two. Mix in Parker and Williams who could slide into the te position with Ges and Pitts sliding out to w/o, and Fuller blowing off the top . How do you defend that. Plus I think we could add another option like Toney. I will not hate Smith at 6 , but I prefer Pitts, Parsons at 18, Toney.

That claim can usually be made by most all programs as well. Even the NFL seems to do it. However, I admit while I’m not overly concerned with his workouts and stuff, I personally don’t like the look. He’s always been a high character guy and it seems to counter what he’s always been. But hey, he’s not the first nor will he be the last.

I think Parsons falls to 18 and is the steal of the draft for what we want to do on defense
