Zach Overrated: People starting to take notice.

Actually he did perform, the man threw up double digit tackles for a man who'd never started in his entire time with the Fins. For a man like Hendricks, that's pretty darn good and I know it kind of left me thinking about how interchangeable our MLB might have been.

The Titans were also running straight up the middle at Hendricks, and not to mention his multiple lapses in coverage.

Actually Jonathon Vilma was 6-1 230lbs his rookie year. He's naturally larger than Thomas. Fletcher, however is a short guy. I wouldn't have put him on my list.

Uhh, actually, Vilma for all intents and purposes is at MORE of a disadvange then Zach in terms of size. At 230 pounds, he's lighter then Zach, and since he is taller more of that weight is bone and non-football mass. Not to mention that his leverage isnt as good.

Uhhh... You do realize at that point Tommy Hendricks had been in the league, and the exact same system with the Dolphins for 4 years, right? His learning curve was long over. His number was called, and he did not perform.
He didn't? You mean 14 solo tackles & 4 assisted tackles is not performing?

Interesting.

Can someone tell me when was the last time Zach has hung 18 total tackles in a game?

No, it's not. Not when a team is running straight at you and suceeding, and you are ****ting the bed in coverage while doing it.

Uhh, the 2nd to last game, Cleveland?

Altho i dont think Hendrix played poorly (not at Zachs level but good none the less) just to add another one Zach had i believe 18 exactly against Cincinati. Not to mention a couple behind the line.

let me guess so zach basically sucked all these years is what your getting at? hmm yet his stats are all smililiar ro ray lewis if not better, zach has the one of the biggests hearts if not the biggest, drive and will to play and succeed, and all your doing is trashing him? please "ZACH IS A GREAT LB" if someone runs him over which doesnt ever happen or if he misses a tackle which "EVERYONE DOES" tough **** deal with it that is gonna happen. I recall when RICKY WILLIAMS was running over RAY LEWIS and his defense no one said anything about that, Ricky made that whole d look like girls. but if there is a little thing wrong with zach that he missed a tackle or something somewhere it blown up since zach is always top 3 or 5 in league in tackles if not leading it. Zach Thomas is a great lb he i will admit he best days may be behind him but that doesnt take away how every time i defense when the play ended Zach was there not even Ray Lewis has that on his resume and because Lewis is a loud mouth hot dog who was aquitted of murder thats how his name became in the spotlightand so big and thats why he won sb mvp and defensive mvp those were some bs calls he lead that defense true but man that defense was so much more than just him, but he is still a great lb i will admit that and i love all my hurricane players execpt for him

Obviously........it was his first start EVER...... Wow man, from the sounds of things you expected perfection. I completely disagree with you in your assessment of Hendricks. He played great against the run. He just wasn't able to handle his responsibilities in against the short pass.

No. Not to mention Vilma's bigger now than his rookie year weigh-in. Zach was lighter as a rook too ya know!!!! Anybody who's ever seen both of them can clearly see Vilma's bigger. What the hell do you need leverage for as a linebacker? Unless of course you're asked to line up in the front, which some hybrids are. Ever seen Zach use his leverage against Kevin Mawae? I don't think so. Point is, Vilma can continue to weight train and have a better chance at taking on lineman than Zach ever will simply because his natural body frame is bigger and he would be able to put on more mass without it hindering his performance. Vilma could easily tip the scales at 240-250 and not feel the slowdown effect that a short stubby 240-250 Zach Thomas would.

NFL.com has him listed as having 8 solo's and 4 assisted for a total of 12 tackles that game.

...........look how many games it took Hendricks to rack up 14, he did it in his first start. Kind of astonishing when you think about it.

Is he still in the league ??

He was beating Ray Lewis n tackles before his injury and would have had alot more tackles. Hes still got it. Dont know what your talking about.

He ended up playing for the Jaguars after he left us. I believe he's a free-agent as we speak.

good question?

How is that a good question? We're simply talking about the perception of Zach's play in terms of tackling #'s and such. I merely pointed out that a no-namer, special teams guy Tommy Hendricks was able to rack up 14 tackles in his first start against the Titans in 2003. Wait..........hold the phone...........read the stat line on Tommy at NFL.com and he had 14 SOLO with only 4 assisted. Zach against a crap Bengals team last year had 9 solo with 9 assisted.

It just begs to question how interchangeable that position could've been or if we could've improved it over that past couple seasons.

Vilma is bigger? ESPN, the Jets website, NFL.com, all have him at 6'1' 230.

Look at Vilma

Here's Zach Thomas

Clearly bigger? Taller. Lankier. If you think Vilma is thinker, you need to like..uhh.. I dont know.

And, uhh, yes. Leverage is VERY important for a linebacker. They have someone attempting to block them on every play, and if someone has a low center of gravity, it's harder to get a block on them. This is why you see certain players like pure blocking fullbacks ending up in the 5'11" range.

Yes. Clearly bigger. Zach's arm muscles look more developed, as expected since he's been in with his team's training program for almost a decade. Again, Zach's physique limits him in the amount of mass he can put on. Vilma can bulk up considerably more, not making him as susceptible to lineman making it out to the second level.

Fullbacks? That's because fullbacks whole purpose in life is to block. Zach's purpose is to tackle and any time a team has been successful at getting out into the 2nd level with their O-line, Zach's been neutralized.
