Our schedule really works against us this year.

No team ever thinks they're "out of it" just because they start 4-4, or even 3-5. If anything, that only leads to the teams further up on the schedule falling asleep on this team and then getting surprised by them.

A loss is a loss. You either beat the tough teams or you're not really contending for a title. Let's say the Dolphins walk away from the first 8 games at 3-5, having beaten the Bills, either the Jets or Patriots, and either the Bengals or Steelers.

Then what? Does that mean Miami's playoff hopes are erased? They're going to go in the tank now? History shows otherwise. You never know how teams are going to fare any given year until you see it play out on the field, but as you look at the next 8 games, based on 2009 records, the Dolphins should be able to SKATE thru to a 5-3 record...to end up at 8-8.

And from there, add wins onto the front part of the schedule or the back part of the schedule, it doesn't matter. Either way, the Dolphins are going to have to come out of this season with some tough victories or else they don't deserve to be competing for a Super Bowl, and they'll get blown out of the playoffs embarrassingly just like 2001 and 2008, and coincidentally enough perhaps by the exact same team (the Ravens).

The Dolphins are going to have to win more than one of the four division games against the Patriots and Jets, and win more than one game against the Titans, Ravens, Bengals, Steelers, Vikings and Packers. And if they can't do that they don't deserve to be in the playoffs, because they're not going anywhere during the playoffs anyway.

If the Dolphins beat the opponents they should beat (the Bills x2, the Bears, Lions, Browns, Raiders), go 2-2 versus the Patriots and Jets, and then merely go 2-4 versus that group of teams above (Titans, Ravens, Bengals, Steelers, Vikings and Packers)...they're 10-6 and should have a playoff spot.

Is that really that scary?

Exactly. If Miami wins 10 games with this schedule they deserve a playoff spot. They just have to play good sound football and if that happens then lookout.

Personally as I look at the schedule, the Dolphins are a legit contender for the Super Bowl if they can win 11 games. If they win 12 games then they're a slam dunk contender, should be in the conference championship. If they win 10 games with this schedule, they probably deserve a shot to redeem themselves by winning some more games in the playoffs, but I wouldn't necessarily forecast it unless one of their losses came at a surprise (ie. the Bills jumped up and bit us again, or the Lions, or someone like that).

The key is I look at those 10 games against the Patriots, Jets, Titans, Ravens, Bengals, Steelers, Packers and Vikings, and I say that if the Dolphins can't go .500 against tough teams like those, then they're probably not legit contenders.

Amazing how people on here simply want to look past Buffalo. They beat us last year folks...not to mention, it's on the road, a division rival and the 1st game of the year. Everyone is going to be pumped. Yes, this team should beat Buffalo if their the team we think they are. But this is not a gimme game by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't think anyone looks past Buffalo or any divison rival for that matter because in the diviaon records go out the window, it is more of a "Miami needs to win those games, period" type attitude. If you don't win those games you let one slip and you need to make it up somewhere else and Miami's schedule isn't very forgiving.

I totally disagree about that.It is to the Dolphins advantage to get both the Jets and Patsies at home early in the season when the heat and humidity can take a toll on them. The Jets will be coming off two hard fought physical games against the Ravens and then the Patsies before we play the Fins in week 3.This is most definitely an advantage for the Dolphins. If you don't beat us in that game you probably won't beat us this year as we get you at home in December.

The games against the Jests and Patsies are both night games, negating some of the heat advantage
leave it to a Jests troll to try and turn the Fins schedule into an advantage. When the toughest
road game against a non divisional opponent the Jests have is against the 9-7 Stealers.

It's all but impossible to get caught looking beyond your first opponent of the year. Players itch for that first real game and coaches plan for it two weeks in advance.

The fact of the matter is Buffalo is legitimately being considered one of the two or three worst teams in football this year. It's not even the same team as a year ago, either. Aaron Schobel is promising to retire. The OL is still terrible. Terrell Owens isn't there anymore to go ape sh-t on Vontae Davis and break the game open. They're switching to a defense the players aren't particularly suited for, and the QB situation is still a mess.

Long story short, the Buffalo Bills will go 0-16 in 2010.

I no longer accept "tough schedule" as an excuse to how we should perform or what our record will be. I dont care if our SOS is the toughest every year for the next decade, I expect us to win our games regardless of who we play. Besides, if we cant beat tough teams in the regular season, we certaily wont beat them in the post season.

CK, in your one post you had the Phins needing to go 2-4 against the meat of the sked after beating up on the the weaker and teams and splitting with the Pats and Jets. Id say if the Phins can only muster 2 wins out of 6 games with the better teams, then a 10-6 record would be misleading.

That would be hilarious if the Bills went 0-16.

just a tad funnier than when the Phins were a whisker away from doing it................

there are no "cupcakes" in the nfl...really??? well why do teams finish and 3-13 4-12 every year??? they're cupcakes for somebody

Which is probably what the 3 or 4 teams they beat went into the game thinking...
