What could you spend Landry's $14M a year on instead of Landry?

New GM. If you got the right guy at the top all this goes away

Some guys just don't understand football. Take a look at this chart https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/stats/receiving#average-intended-yards
What you are looking at is the average yards that the ball is in the air when a guy is targeted. Landry has the 4th highest for receivers. The guys in front of him are Tate, Cobb and Wilson. Cobb had 92 targets, Wilson had 62. Reasonable for slot guys and clearly not the number 1 targets so that AIY is acceptable. Tate had 120 targets. 41 less targets than Landry and yet he had 16 more yards than Landry, clearly more dynamic than Landry at RAC and yet I bet people here would rather have Landry than Tate because of his receptions. You would easily argue that every receiver that is high on that list is not worth 15 million per year but because we throw the ball to Landry 161 times per year, thus inflating his reception totals it makes people think he is a superstar on the level of Julio Jones and AJ Green. Landry averaged 6 yards per target. 6 YARDS PER TARGET. that is not acceptable for a number one receiver making 15 million dollars.

Stop trying to bring logic to a thread where some are too far down their rabbit hole to accept this or understand. :)

And none of those guys are as consistent as a Landry who posted nearly 1000 yards and 100 catches a year for the past 3 years.

He isn’t Julio Jones or AJ Green. He’s a receiver who consistently moves a sticks, with some game changing plays sprinkled in... that is valuable for an offense.

Fact is, salaries go up every year. If Julio Jones hit the market today he might get $20M a year.

My question is, would we spend that money on anything that would approach Landry’s contributions to the team the past 3 years? If yes, great, let him go... but if not, it’s a mistake.
His yards and receptions are overrated just like his pro bowl appearances. They don't show the truth. If we are going to blow money in free agency look for all pros. if nothing suits us then start filling in the trenches. I feel the wr corps is fine with or without Landry, time for Grant and Carroo to earn their keep. Gase will figure it out.

A TE and a guard. You could get pretty decent players at both positions. Might even be able to squeeze in a good HB to pair with Drake.

Now whether we have the ability to get the right guys is another issue - we'll probably screw it up like we always do. But the money that would go to Landry could be used to get some nice players.

But if that slot receiver is more productive and contributes more to the success of the team than any combination of players that would take up that salary, then it would be worth it... Quality over quantity.

Odds are if Landry leaves we'd just use that money on a few players who suck and are a liability on the field...
I don't understand what these peoples who hate on Landry except. He averages 10 yards a catch has 400 hundred catches and 4000 yards. The most productive player in history at his position yet some how he isn't a number 1 because he plays the slot. It's mind boggling. A first down every time you catch the ball on average and yet he isn't good enough. Makes no sense no matter how you soon it in your heads to let him walk

Jarvis had 60 first downs on over 160 targets last year. That isn't a first down every play. That is barely moving the chains in 3 plays. That is why we score 20 points per game on offense. Way too predicable.

because since he was drafted, the dolphins offense has finished the season as follows:
2014: 11th in total offense, 17th in passing offense
2015: 27th in total offense, 19th in passing offense
2016: 17th in total offense, 26th in passing offense
2017: 28th in total offense, 18th in passing offense

Even better is the best year the phins had on offense was when he was still a rookie and he wasn't the focal point of the offense. He was great but the ball was spread around way more in his rookie season, after that he was the main target and our offense went downhill. Obviously thats not all on him, but the point remains if you want to build a top notch offense, your slot receiver should not be your best player. He is completely a product of the system, our offense has been built through him since halfway through his rookie season. People always say "imagine what Landry would do with Brady or Rodgers". There is no other team in the NFL besides maybe the browns who would target him 160 times. Don't get me wrong, Landry is a great slot guy, he would be amazing as a second or third option at 8-10 mil a year. But if any team thinks that signing Landry and making him the focal point of the offense will boost their offense, they will be very upset when that doesn't happen. Being the best player on a bad offense does not make you worth 15 million. Let him go, sign some different guys and see what you can do when you dont run your offense through 2 yard dump offs hoping he breaks it for a long gain. Everyone's acting like losing this guy will break the offense. What offense? We haven't had a good one with him, why pay 15 million a year to stay below average?

Landry Career numbers

571 targets with 220 first downs. Pretty low percentage for a sampling that big.

How about this question. Not counting QB's, how many teams in the NFL would have a slot WR as their 2nd highest paid player on offense?
We know the QB will get the most money but after him, should a slot WR be your 2nd highest paid player on offense?
I'll tell you how many teams would do that out of 32 teams.....ZERO
But yet people on this very board think the Dolphins should do just that but hey, we're the only team in the NFL that starts two SS and plays with no FS so lets just keep doing dumb things, it has worked so well for us

Ozzy rules!!

I would sign all pro left guard Andrew Norwell
for $10 million per and use the extra $4 million on
a "Going Away Party" for Landry
