Who was John Avery?

The Yatil Green injuries made me sad...I saw him play live twice, and I've seen quite a few professional sports games - Yatil Green was one of the fastest humans I've ever seen - he just had an astonishing burst when he wanted to pull away from a CB. I was quite happy when he was drafted.

Too bad his knee couldn't keep up with the rest of him. :(

Wasn't Yatil the guy we took instead of Randy Moss??
I don't think he ever played a down.
Just gussing at it, that was a while ago

You may have him confused with Larry Shannon, who JJ said was better than Moss, but without the baggage.

I am sorry, I assume others have answered your question. I blacked out after you invoked bad memories from the past. The twitching still hasn't subsided.

We drafted him with our first pick in 1998 and we only had him on our team for a year then he disappeared. Did he get injured or something or did we pick another bust?

EDIT: Also who was Yatil Green?

(I am looking over our past draft picks)

Best running back to have ever played played the game of basketball... or was that Charlie Ward? Or was that the quarterback position? LoL. Either way lets just say Charlie Ward would have been a better running back for us than John Avery.

P.S. - Don't send me messages informing me on players and their positions or you will be laughed at... you have been warned.

I liked Avery. He was a poor mans Barry Sanders. Very fast. Afraid of contact though. Never was given a fair chance to carry the team. Would make a rookie mistake and JJ would make him sit the rest of the game. Really couldn't get enough reps to see what he really had.

I'll always remember that one he took around the left end on the 49ers in that preseason game though. He blew around that end and then just outRAN everybody. Boy were people pretty high on him after THAT one.

I was at that game. I remember being so excited about Avery after that run, too, which lasted all of maybe 4 weeks until I saw how he performed getting consistent touches. Whoever said he was afraid to get hit was right on the money. It was more than obvious. In the end, Avery was about as good for the Dolphins as Jerris McPhail, another speed guy JJ drafted who was good for a catch for a long gain every 5 games, but not much more.

EDIT: How do you do this in training camp? "On the first day of training camp, he(Yatil Green) suffered a devastating injury, tearing his quadriceps muscles, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and cartilage in his right knee. Before it had even started, it looked like Green's NFL career was over. ...and as bad as that sounds, what happened instead was far worse."

I mean was he hit by one of those little cars they run the coaches back and forth in?

We pickedup green because of JJs ties with the hurricanes. Green was prone to injuries in collage and any smart coach would have stayed very far away

Well when that's your career highlight, it says all you need to know about that player's career.
