Akeem Spence To The Fins

Played well down the stretch for Detroit. Hopefully that continues here.

We got him for a conditional 7th. You really gonna keep digging up articles on a 7th round player to try to discredit him?
We over payed for the guy. I could care less about the seventh rd. pick. It just continues a pattern that is inherently wrong with this FO.

The Detroit Lions general manager continued his quest to stockpile future draft picks Thursday, trading defensive tackle Akeem Spence to the Miami Dolphins for a seventh-round 2019 draft choice.

Spence, 26, had a career-high three sacks for the Lions last season and started the final 11 games of the year after Haloti Ngata suffered a season-ending injury.

But with a new scheme that values bigger, more versatile defensive tackles, and after acquiring Alabama's Da'Shawn Hand in the third round of this year's draft, the Lions found Spence to be expendable.

For a conditional 7th round pick I have no issue with the deal. He's not a sexy acquisition, but he's a capable player that can add to the rotation at a position we haven't got a great deal of depth at. Perhaps we should have address our DT position with Payne or Vea instead of Fitzpatrick, or perhaps we could have got someone on day two, but at this point Akeem's addition for a conditional 7th round pick with a small cap hit is not the end of the world. It could turn out to be a smart addition if he backs up last season's play with us.

1. we need help NOW on our DL.

2. a 7th round pick is a crapshoot at best, and even if they make the team, likely takes a year or two to develop.

3. The fins get a PROVEN COMMODITY that can help RIGHT NOW and can play 6
or 8 more years in exchange for a 7th rounder?

and some complain about giving up a pick?

whoa!!! :thumbsdown

Not sure what the argument is here. The Dolphins needed more depth at DT. Traded a 7th round pick for a guy who has started and has been at least average. What did those complaining want the team to do? Keep Suh? That ship had already sailed. Sign Johnathan Hankins? He must want a huge contract since he has visited several teams but is still sitting out there. Did they not draft a player you wanted? What would your preferred alternative be?

a conditional 7th lol

he probably would gave got cut before the season anyway, but he took a pay cut today and we gave away virtually nothing. We needed bodies at DT, we got one.
