Compelling proof that Cogs is not racist -- tho he uses racial language in an NFL way

So, you were in a situation where somebody was being racist and you were okay with it because of "environment" you were in? That just means you are okay with people being racist. The meaning is terrible wherever you are. But yes, I will acknowledge that racism is still a reality.

I played sports all through my young life and high school and never ran into it. Probably because those I played with and against weren't raised by ****ty, racist parents that taught them it was okay, but only in "certain circumstances."

No. You missed my point. I said that I was in a context where racial jokes were being made, and I called them out.

The point I was making is that in pro sports -- Football and Basketball mostly -- racial language is used in a NON-RACIST way. It's a form of communication.

My point is that in sports I was wise enough to know what was being said was not necessarily racist. And transcended the language to the meaning behind it. And earned respect for doing so.

If I think something is truly racist, I speak up. But I don't try to find a racist behind every sporting use of Nigga or Cracker or anything else.

Oh, it's pro sports. At what point does one develop this tolerance for racism then? Is it on draft day?

It's simple. No need to try and over-complicate it. If you call somebody a "half-******," what you said is racist. I don't care if it's in a grocery store, in a locker room, or in a voicemail.

It's not just pro sports -- I misspoke. It's especially those two pro sports, but not exclusively.

Do me a favor. Take a month. Every weekend night go to a different inner city ball court and play pick up ball. Or if you're not good enough to play, sit there and listen.

Then you might understand what I'm saying. A form of communication is not necessarily a reality of racism.

The problem with this is just because the majority have no issue with it still doesnt make it right. If Martin or anybody has an issue with it then he is wrong and has to respect their stance on it.

this is the most disgusting thread I have ever read on this site ...... rationalizing to justitfy the use of one of the racist words in history , I don't know any of you personally ,but im beginning to have doubts about ya ......

Dude. Is Pouncey the kind of man that would befriend a racist guy? Seriously.

That is laughable on its face.

LD
p.s. great point about those guys using racial language and not being racist. Happens in sports every day.

Lets not confuse pouncey being a good football player with being a very thoughtful or smart person off the field.

I don't think he's racist. I also agree with Skape and others that the words are likely less damning when the tone is included.

Doesn't matter. You're buying too many issues with that guy. Sheer numbers. He can't hide or restrain every fault.

A voice of reason amidst the piling on Incognito: For those who think Cogs is racist, stop for a minute and watch the "Bar Rage Video" posted by TMZ, where they flame it by saying he used the word "Nigga" -- as if the video proves his racism.

But if you watch the video, you see that 1. He uses the word "Nigga" as a compliment. And, 2. HE REPEATEDLY ANNOUNCES TO THE WHOLE WORLD THAT POUNCEY IS GONNA BE THE BEST MAN AT HIS WEDDING. Watch the video. Does a real racist brag about someone not of his race being his best man? NO.

Cogs is guilty of ZERO racism on that video. It only proves the point in spades that NFL players communicate w. language that is rough -- BUT it is its own culture. A person in pro sports can use racial language without being racist.

Those who are piling on Cogs are weak-assed, pencil pushing media types for a most part. Blind to the NFL context, for the most part.

In sports, I've been called Nigga (and I'm white); I've been called lots of other seemingly denigratory things related to my race. But never have I thought that excuse for calling someone racist. Some of it was very complimentary, in fact. A person just has to be smart enough and man enough to understand how communication works in a "non-sterile," aggressive, masculine, testosterone-fueled environment.

Cogs may be guilty of being a meathead and using NFL-type language to intimidate, but there is good proof that he is not a "racist pos" as some on here are calling him.

If we get to the point where we have to prove someone's not a racist, chances are they're a racist.

Nope...the way he used it sounds racist! Stop trying to understand "hood" dialogue, there are certain people and certain places where that term can be used and not offend..but that was not the way and definatley not the person and no way in hell the place (on a professional football team).

"Compelling truth" has a different meaning for you than me. At the very least, he's a complete tool who never grew up after 10th grade. But i suspect his personality issues go much deeper.
