Compelling proof that Cogs is not racist -- tho he uses racial language in an NFL way

Lets not confuse pouncey being a good football player with being a very thoughtful or smart person off the field.

I think Pouncey is very street smart and also an intelligent guy -- with good relational IQ.

Now, can smart people do dumb things? Like smoke weed and take crazy political stances? Happens every day. I'm guilty too.

The bad thing about the dreaded N word is the young kids using it now like a nickname, rap artists have killed that word and use it in the same context as 'bro' which is a double edged sword cause if you're not black it's deemed racist.

Incognito is 30 damn years old he should know better. Personally I dont use such words regardless of who else does it because I hold myself accountable. I personally fel there is no proper context for what was said to Martin and obviously Martin didnt like it because thats why we are talking about this

Ask Tony Dungy if he allowed his players to use the term "nigga" in his locker room.

Whether Incognito can be categorized with an abstract label such as "racist" is irrelevant. It's his documented behavior that's in question here.

If I were sexually harassing my female co-workers, it would hardly matter whether I could be categorized as a "male chauvinist" or "sex offender." My behavior would be out of line and punishable either way.

Actually he's not all that bright...

Here is the clear issue with all this.... Everyone has a differnet definition of Racism and what constitues it.
There is no way in hell to get everyone to agree on this. Will never happen. Remember folks.. your view is not the only view in the world. Just beacuse you dont agree with the OP or those who oppose him doesnt mean they are bad people. They just look at the world differently.

I personally dont see this as Racism because of the context of the situation. But I clearly understand how some will. I come from a rather large group of friends. We are a tight bunch of guys that have been friends now over 20 years.
We are made up of Black,White,Indian,Cuban,Chineese, Argentinian, Colombian among a few other races. The things Incongnito verbally and via text said to Martin, Pouncey etc is no where near half as bad as the way my friends and I joke with each other.

But its all in context..... so to me i dont see it as an issue. But i am fully aware that to others this is unacceptable.

One thing we have to remember is racism isn't stemmed from ignorance like everybody wants to say - its formed from familiarity. For example, I have never met a Polynesian. I have absolutely no preconceived notions of how a Polynesian would act, play a sport, drive a car, etc. There is zero history for me to fall back on which is how our human brains are wired - to make future assumptions on previous experience.

Cog has played with black players his entire life. Every athlete typically plays with guys of other races their entire life. You pick things up no matter how pure of heart you are. I have no doubt my current black teammates have used the cracker and cracka word, and I don't care. I have no doubt every white and Hispanic member has used nigga and ******. In reference to the Hispanic members we joke of them mowing lawns and other "racist" jokes that are again built on familiarity with a race. Race isnt an off topic either for another race our your own, and i have to suspect that my team isnt all that different from teams throughout the US. All 15 of us gladly go on the field and fight for each other weekly and are the closest of fronds outside. Are we all racists because we use antiquated racist terms or pseudo racists jokes together .... maybe, who knows. All I know is that by not shying away from the topic we actually were able to open communication about it and make progress as a group.

personally i think the nail in the coffin for Incognito was both the use of repeated racial slurs and violence.

It's one thing having some jokes and banter with friends about this and that and there's another continuing to threaten violence to you & loved ones, which as others have mentioned goes too far.

Also, i think we've only seen the worst transcripts, I'm sure there were others which may not have been that bad but coupled with a long stream of repeated references, there's only so much people can take before enough is enough.

It's not just pro sports -- I misspoke. It's especially those two pro sports, but not exclusively.

Do me a favor. Take a month. Every weekend night go to a different inner city ball court and play pick up ball. Or if you're not good enough to play, sit there and listen.

Then you might understand what I'm saying. A form of communication is not necessarily a reality of racism.

So, you're one of those that doesn't see the difference between what some inner-city kids are saying to each other and Incognito calling Martin a "half-******." Luckily, that viewpoint is slowly dying out with your generation, outside of the few jackasses like Incognito who clearly carry it on from their racist fathers.

And something tells me you wouldn't go near those courts  I have a better challenge. How about you go up to those same kids and say "pass me the ball ******!" See how that goes over. Just make sure you let them know that it's "okay" for white people to call them that now.

Look at all the white people trying to lessen the impact of the n-word and justify it's use.

This is the fact that people do not understand. The importance is the act, not who the act was committed against.

Obviously they were not the closest of friends and he did not see these as jokes and thats why we are here.

No doubt this behavior happens amongst groups of friends but do you:

a. Threaten them and their family?
b. Tell them you want to **** in their mouth?
c. Extort 15,000 from them to help finance a trip they don't participate in?

I have 4 kids, 2 of which are half Okinawan and 2 are half Mexican and numerous friends of different races, ethnic, cultural and financial backgrounds and we crack on each other but never does a-c or anything close come into the conversation.

Bottom line is your relationship with your friends is far stronger than the relationship we are viewing here.

I am not too sure of that to be honest. Plenty of pictures and instances of them hanging out and taking personal trips together.
Honestly none of us know for sure. Everyone including myself is purely speculating one way or another at this point .

I take offense at Incognito using the word "half"...I find that insulting.

Ban him, persecute him.
