One thing we have to remember is racism isn't stemmed from ignorance like everybody wants to say - its formed from familiarity. For example, I have never met a Polynesian. I have absolutely no preconceived notions of how a Polynesian would act, play a sport, drive a car, etc. There is zero history for me to fall back on which is how our human brains are wired - to make future assumptions on previous experience.
Cog has played with black players his entire life. Every athlete typically plays with guys of other races their entire life. You pick things up no matter how pure of heart you are. I have no doubt my current black teammates have used the cracker and cracka word, and I don't care. I have no doubt every white and Hispanic member has used nigga and ******. In reference to the Hispanic members we joke of them mowing lawns and other "racist" jokes that are again built on familiarity with a race. Race isnt an off topic either for another race our your own, and i have to suspect that my team isnt all that different from teams throughout the US. All 15 of us gladly go on the field and fight for each other weekly and are the closest of fronds outside. Are we all racists because we use antiquated racist terms or pseudo racists jokes together .... maybe, who knows. All I know is that by not shying away from the topic we actually were able to open communication about it and make progress as a group.
