cut mare

Logical post. I somewhat subscribe to the "domino theory" but I put much more weight into palyer execution. No matter what has happend in qtrs 1-3 you MUST execute when called upon. On the play that I cited as an example even though Mare did not have his normal ph or ls, the snap and the hold were executed the KICK was not. Again, Mare was NOT the reason we lost that game, but if MARE executes the called play our chances of winning increase tenfold.

Another point of contention I have with your post is if a kicker states that "if the offense would have scored one more touchdown" he is assigning blame and deflecting personal responsibility which are both no-no's in this game. If a WR drops a curcial third down pass (no offense Derrious) that would have sealed the game, we punt and and the opposing teams drives for the winning score, that WR (Sorry Derrious) can't say "yeah I dropped the pass, but if the defense would've held we still could've won". No, as a man and a professional player he has to stand up and say "I make that catch the games over, no excuses".

I dont want my main point ot get lost in all of this, Mare's declining play has at the very least called for a restructuring (whether we need him too or not) and that his grace period is over and so is my patience with him. With a new offense and shaky QB play we will need every point we can get this year and if Mare cant convert 85-88% (which is merely average) of his kicks. We need to start looking at other options or at the very least open the position up for competition.....

Philly, your point is very valid...Mare has to get his stuff together or face the consequences...There is more to any loss than one play or one player. While you can say that Mare has had some reasons for his slump (holder, snapper, coaches, etc), he still will have to cut bait in order to keep his place on the team.

However, a restructure of contract does not mean a pay cut...ZT, PS, SM, JT have all restructured, but all they did was convert salary to signing bonus, extend the years and that reduces the cap hit..the money they will get is still the same as before restructure...

Mare will probably have to take a pay cut, restructure or get cut unless he has a stellar year...as I think we are both saying...

dont do it !!! hes a great kicker that had a bad year , if we do we better have a backup like last time ...... staonovich " was playing great and cuz of the cap we dumped him for mare AND IT TURNED OUT ALRIGHT. ID HATE TO HAVE THE PROBLEMS THAT THE JETS HAVE !!

Joe Nedney was the kicker after Stoyonovich and before Mare

Everyone talks about the kicks he missed to lose games, but what about the number of times he's made game winning or game tying kicks? I agree his play the past few years hasn't been up to the level we've come to expect. But there is no better option right now. Even at his current level of play, he's still better than most of the kickers in the league.

name the top 5 kickers in the league

1. Adam Vinatieri
2. David Akers
3. Mike Vanderjagt
4. Jason Elam
5. Jeff Wilkins or Matt Stover... I can't decide betweeen the two

Vanderjagt makes this list because despite his big mouth, he's a great kicker. Last years stats won't really support that on Field Goals, because he was busy converting PATs all year long with that super effective offense.

I'm convinced Mare's alignment is off. Before his approach on FG attempts he is standing maybe 6 inches further to his right, closer to head on, than in his peak years. I've looked at tapes one after another and shown them to friends and everyone has agreed. I posted that on another Dolphin forum at least two years ago. I wrote a letter to the team but they ignored me. Perhaps this regime will be more receptive. Anyone who plays golf understands how vital alignment can be, and how you can alter it negatively without even knowing it. Mare's leg swing will naturally be different if his angle of approach is not the same.

Well that is an interesting tidbit of info...

im tired of this guy's bad kicks,we need a new kicker!!!!Last yr he missed alot the yr before he cost us the pats game by missing (2)30 yard kicks!!!missing 40 yard kicks at mini camp..wow has he fallen from the RANKS!!!!But the biggest thing im tired of is his high salary too!!!! What do we pay this guy anyways over 2 million a yr....way too much money on a kicker!!!

He deserves at least another year................trust me you don't want to go through the same debacle the Jags went through. I think the good run of kickers that the dolphins have had over the last 30 years has spoiled you. Anybody remember Garo Yepremian, Uwe von Schamann, Fuad Reveiz....who was that other guy..............you may think they are a dime a dozen but it takes nerves of steel and a memory threshold of zero to be a good kicker in this league.

Ohhhhhhhhh........... wait until the Mare fanbois show up.

He hasn't been reliable on FG since Blevins left.

He makes one of three kicks in 2003 (Houston, NE (2x)) we make playoffs and NE is outside looking in.

this is absolutely mind boggling to me... Olindo Mare is not only a far above average kicker, but he's a terrific athlete who still blasts kickoffs, makes terrific tackles and is absolutely LOVED in the locker room...

i, for one, am more than happy with him... rather than go with the unknown on the kicking merry-go-round that soooooo many teams struggle with year after year... the Dolphins haven't had 1/4 the amount of kicking problems most teams have suffered with for 20 years... we've been very blessed, overall, with Reveiz (sp?), Stoyo, and now Olindo...

if you think you're gonna go out and find a Vanderjagt or Elam, you really need to quit sniffing glue... this is the kind of thinking that would seek to replace a career sub-3.00 ERA starting pitcher in baseball because he had a 3.50 ERA one year... c'mon...

you people who blame Mare for 2003 are really unfair, and i'm glad you're not our GM... for every kick he's missed to win a game (MAYBE 3-4 in his career), i can perhaps think of 10 other games he's won for the Dolphins.... several 9-6 games indeed, where Olindo WAS our only scoring...

and he booms kickoffs...

Well said.

You have to remember, in the Patty game he was kicking off of the baseball diamond too! That sudden change in footing came into play as well, both of the kicks were off of the diamond I believe?
