Dolphins are finalizing a deal with former Jets S Ashtyn Davis.

Free agency has barely gotten started. Did you conclude that unless we made early splash signings at safety we were locked into drafting one at 13? Even if they don't sign any other safeties, there are plenty of options in the draft in the mid-rounds. Safety is a dime-a-dozen position. Unless a rare player like Reed or Polamalu is available, it is better to pick one in the 2nd through 4th. Holland and Moehrig were 2s. Reid was a 3, and Bynum was a 4, for example.
Fitzpatrick and Oliver are safeties we've drafted in the first. Who did we draft from the Putzpatrick trade? Edit: Jackson

Jason Allen too, if you consider him a safety, which I do

Taking this one step further...

I think these signings should keep us from drafting a safety until the third day of the draft. At the very least, it should take us out of the box safety market... At this point, I'd only draft a Free Safety type. With both McMorris and Melifonwu as obvious box safeties who should stick and Cambell as an all-purpose and special teamer, any draftee should be a ball-hawking deep safety. As it is, we have 4 safeties who are almost guaranteed to stick. At best, we only need one more for our final roster.

Bring in a couple guys as late rounders or UDFAs and call it a day.

Calm down it was half joking about locked in at 13 for safety. But it would be a Grier special to dig a hole at a position, then everyone knows you have a massive hole.

Grier is a massive failure at GM and hasn't earned an benefit of the doubt.

Man Coverage
24 - 89.1 in 45 coverage snaps
23' = 82.0 in 26 Coverage snaps
21' = 60.2 in 130 coverage Snaps

Zone Coverage
24' = 48.9 in 83 Coverage snaps
23' = 59.9 in 57 coverage snaps
21 = 68.7 in 226 Coverage snaps

Davis allowed 7 TDs in his first two seasons combined, but only 1 in the last 3 combined.
Thank you. Looking even deeper, Davis gave up 1 TD in 20 targets and Holland's average was 1TD in 24 targets. Slightly better, but if Davis can extrapolate that to the 48 targets Holland had last year, the slight downturn in TD prevention will be offset by the increase in INT's, not to mention the $aving$ with Davis back there.

Not trying to talk anyone into him, since it’s quite clear at this point that the Dolphins intend to stink in 2025.

But PFF did give him pretty good coverage grades the past two years—well above average. Not sure how that corresponds with the > 70% completion rate, but take it for what it’s worth.

I thought someone showed those pff ratings with Man and Zone. He was good at Man but terrible at Zone. I guess the Jests run a lot of zone.

Come on, It is like every player Miami signed is the best in the word. If Davis is starting at Saftey that is not good. Ya he has some picks, but gambles, QBs complete 70% on him and 9 tds as well. There is a reason he lost his starting job on the Jets. He is a depth Saftey, is want he is.

Melifonwu has show some skill, but as only 14 starts in 4 years. Only 1 healthy season out of 4 and only played in like half his career games.

Ya safety is a massive need still. And we still have like one legit CB only and question marks. I guess that secondary is all sunshines if we plan on dropping 40 per game on O.
I hope & doubt we are one of the teams in on Asante Samuel (is he healthy? Or been hurt? Literally no idea)

That's because everyone purposefully was evasive about it. Something about his shoulder... Harbaugh didn't want him to tell anyone... Samuel said it's a "lifelong" injury...

Lifelong? Like he's had it all his life, or it's new, and he'll never recover?

The home of the UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. :)
Davis has 8 picks in 1638 defensive snaps. That's excellent.
Holland has 5 in 3584 snaps.
That’s was a fast end to that debate lol
