Dolphins sign Samson Satele

Well during the heart of free agency there were quality vets available that did not break the bank

During the heart of free agency, we didn't know Mike Pouncey would need hip surgery.

That being said, I'm firmly in the "start Garner, Satele is for depth" camp.

Booooooo!!!!!! He cant move anyone in the running game he gets lost in space..

its not like he will be the future of the C ,its just for a few games until pouncey is back , IMO i would rather have a decent C than to go into week one with a C that cant even hike the ball , maybe there is something better when the cuts come , but as of right now he is the best we can sign right now . Maybe our new line Coach can help Satele pull better on the running game ....

At that point did we know about Pouncey?

No we didn't but signing non starters like Shelly Smith and Jason Fox when there are starting level guys out there weakens the line.

Exactly. They needed two competent players who can play the C position. As it stood they had just one. Now they have two.

It was no brainer to sign Satele no matter who starts at C between he and Garner.

Satale wasn't signed for depth. There is a reason that Garner is not a starter in this league

Stele is a great signing be it starter gor 6 games or back up. We won't have poor snaps with him that's for sure

Bro when you going to be positive about this team for once?

I feel a little better about our center situation now. Satele is no superstar and he struggled here in a man system, but he may fit better with the zone blocking system Lazor is apparently implementing. Satele is just okay but he started everywhere he went, so we could do worse. I did n;t really follow him though, so has he been healthy?

To be fair, I don't believe satele was rated the worst center in the nfl last year. I think he was 31 out if 33 eligible centers rated. Lol

this signing takes away another question mark fr us. although he is not all star he is a true center which before him we really didnt have. Garner was a Guard or tackle, Smith is a Guard, and Brenner really to me wasnt an option to begin with. That gives us now 4 or the 5 positions on the line looking to be set with Albert at LT, Colledge at LG, Satele at C, and James at RT.

That leaves us with RG and 3 solid option in an improved Dallas Thomas, a good looking rookie in Billy Turner, and good FA signing in Shelly smith. Not a star studded line but a serviceable line that will improve once Pouncey returns.

The dude has lasted as a starting center in the NFL, multiple teams, including being the hook-up for Luck.

He was signed as insurance. IMHO, Garner is the starter, but if something happens to him, we are really screwed. Satele is a a bad player, but at least he is a veteran.
I think they still sign another center after the final cuts. There is likely going to be someone cut.

I hope that's the route we end up going or depth player for depth player type trade at that point if the right player is out there on the bubble of another team.

It was so much fun watching Satele getting manhandled with his 12 inch alligator arms his first stint with the Dolphins why not bring him back so he can be a punching bag for opposing AFC East teams again.

If nothing else, this signing says that the Dolphins are taking the front end of the schedule very seriously and not taking a "we will be ok when Mike gets back to center" approach.
Week One will set a Tone for the season.

There is no other way to think, so it tells nothing.

I'm sure others have said it but to me this is a signal of defeat. I like Benton but I would have preferred that more patience be extended to the Shelley Smith experiment. Botched snaps are easier to fix than what ails sub mediocrities like Nate Garner and Samson Satele.
