Dolphins sign Samson Satele

I'm sure others have said it but to me this is a signal of defeat. I like Benton but I would have preferred that more patience be extended to the Shelley Smith experiment. Botched snaps are easier to fix than what ails sub mediocrities like Nate Garner and Samson Satele.

Im glad they moved on from the smith experiment but there are no good center options out there

Satele is nothing but garbage. We sign the worst rated center in the NFL in 2013?! What a great signing.

He should fit in nicely with Shelley Smith, who was one of the worst rated OGs. Starting to see a trend, Hickey has a plan. Not a good one, but a plan never the less.

Not sure why the dolphins have to try to outsmart themselves. There is a reason that neither Houston or ST Louis played Smith at center or even considered him a starter

well at least Satale is a below average starter not a an average at best backup who esp at center is not even nfl worthy and definitely will not be a good starting guard

Satele is terrible, but he is experienced and can make the line calls. He knows how to play center. Smith, Larsen, and Benner are physically not ready, and mentally not ready.
Until the cuts, Satele is our back up center. Hopefully another vet will get cut and we can upgrade the position before the start of the season

Steady play? Solid pick up? You do realize Satele was the worst rated center in the entire NFL last season!!!
And did you know he played on a bad knee that was hurt in the pre-season? Paul Soliai also played on a bad knee most of last year and we all saw how much his play dropped off because of it.

Wilfork must be laughing hysterically at the thought of tossing Satele around like a loaf of bread again

Satele played in 4 games for Miami vs the Pats on his first stint with the Dolphins. The Dolphins rushing totals were:
30 attempts, 179 yds, 6.0 avg. Satele allowed no sacks.
22 attempts, 108 yds, 4.9 avg. Satele allowed no sacks.
36 attempts, 216 yds, 6.0 avg. Satele allowed no sacks.
18 attempts, 66 yds, 3.7 avg. Satele allowed no sacks.

But, let's not let facts get in the way of a good story.

PFF rated Smith as the 25th best overall guard in the league last season, out of 81 rated.

PFF ratings are still suspect IMO. Plus, Satele is a finesse C that was playing in Pep Hamiltion's dumb, run heavy offense…why did Hamilton try to go run heavy with Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton and Reggie Wayne? Oh yeah, the overrated, lumbering Trent Richardson was on board.

Some of Satele's "rating" had to do with the stupid positions he as put in by his OC.

I am starting to wonder if Shelley Smith is in trouble in terms of making the teams. Only LG reps yesterday…Joe said not read into that, but we shall see.

I think above everything else we signed Satele because of his experience. Not saying he is the best or anything, but he has worked with several offensive lines as the starting center, so I think the mind set of our coaches is he might help our OL gel faster than the guys we have that are less experienced. When I have heard about great OL's usually the first thing I hear is how well they work together NOT how athletically talented they are as individuals. It's a 1 year contract and worth taking a chance, IMO.

I'm sure this is because of all the bad snaps. at this point they want them snaps to be right. his run blocking I could care less about it's his snapping the ball right and pass blocking. I think he will do to pouncy comes back.

I don't think it really has anything to do with Garner. They have NOTHING at that position behind Garner, and Pouncey is up in the air. Even if Satele doesn't start, he is much needed depth for a very thin OL

Your right... I don't think pouncey is up in the air at all though..he will miss most or all of the first half of the season.

So like you said...they needed some depth for competition for center and backup.

Satele may not make the team...he better come motivated.

Otherwise....even if he does make it he'll be gone when Pouncey returns.
