So let's say X's balky knees only allowed him to play 8 games last year how many of us would be OK with the team cutting his salary down a few million is the question I ask myself when I read posts supporting his holdout after having a great year?
It's not by a CBA rule that the team would not have to renegotiate with X. The clubs contract is still valid. So the team doesn't have to. What the CBA allows is simply the team the option to fine the player. Now, players are ready for these fines. Rodgers and Watson's already calculated the impact and both could pay the fines to sit the entire year and still pocket a couple million. The year will now not count, but it definitely puts pressure on the team....and by CBA rule, the Dolphins can refuse to do this.
He can ask; they can say, 'no'. If he fails to show up, they can fine him into oblivion.

Yes.Curious if a play sits out a year. Do they "own" the team an additional year?
Yes.
His 13M this year is guaranteed, but future years are not... but he won't get a Zulac of it if he holds out... and the 'Phins refuse to blink. If he actually held out all year, he'd miss out on the entire 13M, an accrued year, and would still owe the Dolphins his fine money, altogether he'd lose about 14.5M dollars. The only way he profits from this is if the 'phins blink, because as I've shown with the rules that I've posted above, they hold all the cards except one... are they desperate enough to keep him that they let him blackmail them.
I'm betting that they try to massage his pathetic ego a bit and throw a couple more dollars at him, but I'm hoping they move him while his value is at it's highest.

I think it depends on the player and situation. I certainly hope it doesn't come to that with X.For a player like "X" and any other player at his kinda position and getting close to 30. That's a devisating type of blow to take.
You can't afford to lose a year and money on top of it.
He's playing with fire. It could work, or he could really get burned. His best hope is that the 'phins play along because of fan pressure, but if they don't-- if the 'phins want to use him as an example that they will not negotiate with those under contract, then he's probably screwed. For a player like "X" and any other player at his kinda position and getting close to 30. It's really a gamble for him. I believe last season was the 1st time in a few season he's been able to play the entire year.I think it depends on the player and situation. I certainly hope it doesn't come to that with X.
Truly great players tend to be tolerated... for awhile, but the guys with the most negative personalities usually end up bouncing around their last few years in the league, and then being forced to retire a year or two early because no one wants to deal with them. The biggest issue I have is, we aren't building a team like this. At this point, I don't want X on our team. Get rid of this dude asap.
Mods, this post right here is why we need down votes/dislike button returned for our use!!!I want X there for leadership role. I 100% understand his need to hold out. Those that post any crap about players hold out when wanting more simply don't understand anything about business. A contract ISN'T a contract unless it's 100% guaranteed. Until the NFL moves to that, then these situations are going to increase in number. We can cut X right now and not pay his full contract. Lol there even posters here ready to trade him now...so I guess so much for his contract?
Calling a spade a spade.Ah... the narcissist POV. Seen it.
