Im sure the highest chair in your office building knows the intricate nature of your emotional state and relationships between you and your colleagues (sarcasm).
Unless you are a head honcho yourself rubbing elbows with upper-management, Im sure Vice-President Smith doesn't have the slightest idea of receptionist Stacey's loathing of the way secretary Becky's passive-aggressive comments regarding Stacey's fashion sense is affecting Stacey. Furthermore, I can guarantee Vice-President Smith doesn't know that Stacey's second and third guessing in front of the mirror in the mornings has lead to tardiness. And he will not know until this behavior is so prevalent that it is an obvious issue regarding company policy.
So, now you want to fire Vice-President Smith as well as Office Manager Jane because Vice-President Smith was not alerted by Office Manager Jane that Office Manager Jane should have suspected that Stacey was severely suffering from personal matters and comments, such as those made in many offices by many employees that dont get along, will result in detrimental circumstances to the company when Stacey throws the stapler across the room one day, storms out, and decides to hire an attorney.
It shocks me, the lack of perspective on this forum.
Martin's actions and lack of actions and lack of ability to control his emotional state in order to apply any action caused this turmoil.
Have any of you even read the report? I read all 148 pages, every word. If you read it, you're telling me that Martin's fear is Philbin's fault, that Martin's history of depression is on Philbin, that Martin didn't have the ability to seek a tactful resolve to his suffering due to his self loathing holds Philbin accountable?
How about this? How about Martin telling his coach that he needs to meet with him in private? How about Martin explaining to Philbin that the current situation he is facing cannot be solved blatantly because it would only cause further turmoil for him? How about the possibility of Philbin acting tactfully, hanging around clicks in the locker room and dropping in on meetings unexpectedly? How about Philbin, after exhibiting this rare behavior of hanging around more often, holds a full staff meeting and explains that he has heard verbiage in the locker room that will not be accepted and anyone caught speaking this way will be reported to Goodell as well as heavily disciplined with fines and suspensions? I guess we'll never know.
The issue at hand is behavior in the work place and how an widely accepted culture affected one individual to amounts far beyond that of normal. Due to this incident, strong guidelines and disciplinary actions must be elevated.
You want to hold coaches accountable for mental illness, a monster Martin himself created in his own mind?
There wasnt any issues with other lineman because the others knew that this language and behavior is widespread in the profession and they had the mental capacity and emotional stability to deal with it accordingly. I didnt see Player A, as the report alludes to, storm out creating havoc after he was unacceptably touched by his teammates.
Martin's mental illnesse plays a huge, HUGE roll here. My brother was diagnosed with bipolar 1 and I have experienced first hand that this is not a "walk it off" affliction. It is a serious illness and it can make a whirlwind of someone's life.
Incognito's language, actions, overall state of being are incorrect and should not be accepted in the work place. But we all know this work place is different and, unfortunately, it became a norm. In high school, varsity would initiate JV by what they called red-doggng. They would physically over power you and hump you doggy style when you least expected it. The coaches would walk by when this was happening and wouldnt even show the slightest iota of interest. They would be holding a conversation in the weight room while this was taking place. Why? It was tradition. It was the norm. And until some kid spoke up, it would continue to be the norm and accepted.
I was alway smart enough to have my back against the wall when we were lifting with varsity. I saw the star LB Armando smirking with evilness and heading my way with his click. I told him, "i cant take all of you but your mother is not going to recognize one of you when you get home tonight." I remember that as if it were yesterday. Star LB extended his hand and said, "Well done. Leave him alone."
