Hurricane Irma Only thread

Checking in. POWER to the people! With comcast. Power was flicking on and off all day and finally it's on. Didn't think I'd be watching MNF.

Thank you to everyone who kept this thread up to date with all the latest info. You guys were tracking it down to a tee. Glad everyone is good. Hope everyone has power soon.

Go Dolphins!!!!!!

Yuh nuh dead yet? Haha good to hear everything is good with you.

That last major band that came thru Jax was a bitch. Tornado and flood warnings galore all evening long. We fared well overall. Lost trees and lots of flooding but no major house damage. Never seen or heard so many transformers blowing up and lighting up the sky like green lightening. Sand displacement by the beach is incredible. Glad it's over, but recovery from Irma is going to take a while all across the state. Glad to hear everyone did well considering the circumstances.

I remember our first storm, we were like, wow hurricanes bring green lightning?. It didn't take us too long to figure out what that green really was....

Ugh still no power here. This heat is terrible during the day. At night, and I mean after 11 pm to 7 am, it doesn't feel as bad with all windows open.

Chest freezer still iced well but the fridge is now lukewarm and the fridge freezer will likely be that way by the end of the day. Got invited to stay by family but not at that point yet but could be another story if the electricity don't come back soon.

Luckily I prepped well so food and cold drinks still well in stock.

Not really trying to drive with all that debris on the roads. Did that too early during Wilma and ended up with 3 flat tires. Lesson learned.

The wrath of the wind and rain was on my balcony and bedroomside and water leaked thru pretty good on floors so dealing with that. All the shingles are off the roof and more trees down than up.

But we still good here in Oakland Park . . . Move ya *** FPL.

P.s. **** Jose right about now, glad he looks to be not coming.

Some of the power lines are shredded by me, and on the ground, it could be a while unfortunately.

I believe I was closer to the storm here in Lake Mary than most of you so it's crazy to hear how much worse most of you fared than me. Lots of branches everywhere, lot of people without power and quite a few trees down but nothing as bad as some of you. Sucks hearing what some of you are dealing with. Glad everyone is safe and only dealing with "stuff", rather than harm to life. Prayers to all.

Outside of winter weather, the other main reason it would be hard to leave FL is the idea of going to a state without a Publix every 2 or 3 miles. Don't think I could make it.

Not sure I woulda did Sushi after a storm tho lol
That's really funny, because I say the same thing about Acme Supermarkets, here in New Jersey!!! LOL. I remember both Winn Dixie and Publix from when I was a kid, visiting my relatives in Florida. I remember my aunt would tell my dad about how she preferred Publix over Winn Dixie. Although, I'd probably feel the same as you, if I was living in Florida. Lord knows I've had my house up for sale for the longest time, with no luck.

Glad to see everyone back posting. And from what I've been reading, most didn't suffer too much damage. Glad to hear.

If you don't shop at Aldi if you have one in your vicinity, you're doing it wrong and wasting your money on commercialism and labels.

What is this Publix you speak of and do they stay open during a Winter Nor'easter!?

This is the only website that will load for me. Phone has been going so slow.

Power has been out since 7 pm on Sunday. Downed wire dangling over the driveway by my cars and throughout my entire yard. Two other lines down on this street as wel. Lost the screen enclosure around the pool but that's all. No real roof or house damage.

It is H O T today though. Good Lord I'd kill for a burger. Live by a Walmart with several fast food stops and they're all still in the dark with me.

Definitely shop at Aldi as well, but their produce is easily the poorest (tho cheapest) out of all of them. Agree some of their store brand items are better than noticeable name brands. My dad is German, and I visit Germany a few times, so I was familiar with Aldi well before they made their way to the states. Their stores in Germany are superior to the ones here.

However, I find Publix to be the cheapest IF you take 5 to 10 minutes to go through their ad and find the best deals every week. I load up on Sale items that I use and by the time I run out it is likely on sale again. B1G1 is tough to beat. Plus their coupon policy is amazing. Bakery and Hot/Cold foods and Deli are superior.

Winn-Dixie usually has the best sale prices on meat, but quality is a notch below Aldi and Publix. They use the Plenti rewards program now and their ads are slowly starting to compete with Publix, although it does require the card.

We have a local meat market called Penn-Dutch that is real competitive on meat prices also. Best prices when it comes to non sale stuff.

Completely stopped shopping grocery at Wal-mart and with Target usually having great sales on Paper goods and health and beauty, it is a rare occurence for me to be there.

I realize some people don't over analyze their shopping ritual, but this year i have been on 14 cruise days (ABC islands, Grand Cayman, Key West and Bahamas), 12 days in Europe (Paris, Germany), not to mention short trips to Seattle, LA, Vegas, Phoenix and still have a 5 dayThanksgiving weekend in Orlando planned. I am not rich, not even close . . .but I save tons of money just by shopping smart. I encourage everybody to do the same.

Omg we got power back. Apparently the main intersection by the house had a tree or something that pulled the traffic signal down and that caused the power to go down around the area.

Immediately started charging my power bricks just in case lol.

All in all a little over 2 days, really cant be upset about that.

Lots of trees down here in Miramar. I mean, holy ****. Fences completely gone, roof shingles. Couple of cars around the neighborhood got smashed.

Some of my pool screen went but the rubber was left right behind so I was able to fix it myself. That's it for me. Palm trees fell completely but out of harm's way.

Between 12:30-2:00pm we must have went from tropical storm to cat-1/2 over here. We had a short span of some serious wind.

Those tornado warnings were scary as ****.

Hell yes they were. I've never experienced a tornado in my life. Were you scurrying away to the closet like I was?

#UPDATE: East Coast - estimated power restoration by end of weekend, possible exception in areas hit by tornadoes, flooding & severe damage.
