If you don't shop at Aldi if you have one in your vicinity, you're doing it wrong and wasting your money on commercialism and labels.
Definitely shop at Aldi as well, but their produce is easily the poorest (tho cheapest) out of all of them. Agree some of their store brand items are better than noticeable name brands. My dad is German, and I visit Germany a few times, so I was familiar with Aldi well before they made their way to the states. Their stores in Germany are superior to the ones here.
However, I find Publix to be the cheapest IF you take 5 to 10 minutes to go through their ad and find the best deals every week. I load up on Sale items that I use and by the time I run out it is likely on sale again. B1G1 is tough to beat. Plus their coupon policy is amazing. Bakery and Hot/Cold foods and Deli are superior.
Winn-Dixie usually has the best sale prices on meat, but quality is a notch below Aldi and Publix. They use the Plenti rewards program now and their ads are slowly starting to compete with Publix, although it does require the card.
We have a local meat market called Penn-Dutch that is real competitive on meat prices also. Best prices when it comes to non sale stuff.
Completely stopped shopping grocery at Wal-mart and with Target usually having great sales on Paper goods and health and beauty, it is a rare occurence for me to be there.
I realize some people don't over analyze their shopping ritual, but this year i have been on 14 cruise days (ABC islands, Grand Cayman, Key West and Bahamas), 12 days in Europe (Paris, Germany), not to mention short trips to Seattle, LA, Vegas, Phoenix and still have a 5 dayThanksgiving weekend in Orlando planned. I am not rich, not even close . . .but I save tons of money just by shopping smart. I encourage everybody to do the same.
