Jason Allen (not looking like a starting caliber player)

Allen is a bust and proves that even Saban makes mistakes.

I know I am going to get flamed for this but he looks extremely bust-like at this point. I have seen many many busts at the DB position in the past and it's only natural considering how hard it is to evaluate a DB. I think that the hardest positions to scout are QB, then DB, and then OL. This was our one mistake I think.
:sidelol: Any one calling him a bust after two preseason games and very few practices has got to be kidding.. name a rookie in the first round thats not a bust in your eyes. Bush had a bad game last night, he should just give up and go back to college what a loser.

The Zoo is back! I missed you guys!

Okay, let's see who else is a bust from this draft, since the second preseason game is obviously the time to make such assertions. The top 15:

Mario Williams- 1 tackle so far BUST
Reggie Bush-
had a cool looking run. Just put him in the HOF now, though it may still be to early since he hasn't played his second preseason game yet.
Vince Young- HOF as a running back
D'Brickashaw Ferguson- saw him make a good block yesterday. It's enough for me! But...he is a Jet...BUST
AJ Hawk-
3 tackles, 3 assists? If I were rational, the jury would still be out...but...BUST
Vernon Davis-
hasn't played his second game yet, but I can't find any stats for him (because we all know that's what matters) from the first game, so I'll give him a preemptive BUST
Michael Huff-
one tackle...BUST
Donte Whitner-
he's on the Bills BUST
Ernie Sims-
Holy shnikies! He got a sack! HOF
Matt Leinart-
a Cardinal, so BUST until he switches to another team, then HOF
Jay Cutler-
blown those second stringers...away HOF
Haloti Ngata- apparently, not liking the school he is from is reason enough to call him a BUST
Kamerion Wimbley-
4 tackles and a sack? Oh wait, the sack was against the Lions...BUST
Brodrick Bunkley-
1.5 sacks? HOF.5
Tye Hill-
again, don't like the college team he is from, BUST

:hi5:

:chuckle:

Nice!

2 weeks into a kids first NFL T.C. and people deeming him a bust...... LOVE IT!
Yearly event around here.

Yes, he could end up a bust but no way, no way in hadies can you make that assessment now.

And on that note..maybe he should simplify his plays, if you dont have the personnel to run the scheme you have then you should adapt to what you do have.
Great post.

Allen has brought things on himself. Alot of people knew nothing about the boy when we took him and the only feeds were him getting trucked in college. I know it was Ronnie so I let it slide but after seeing him curl like a dog with it's tail between its legs against the Bucs on a couple of instances i have doubts. He had a bum hip that kept him out his senior year and he was nothing special before. For someone like that to hold out as long as he did and play like a POS he deserves to be put down. It's his job to silence us not yours. We need to start giving all our 1st round picks free passes especially the way our last 2 has done us.:shakeno:

I went to Georgia and I saw this kid play a lot. He's for real. He's got natural instincts, great coverage ability, and he's a good tackler. So he got trucked by Ronnie, what does that prove? Last I checked, Ronnie dislocated Champ Bailey's shoulder and he's the best CB in the league. Back to Allen, give the guy time. It's way TOO EARLY to assess his performance as an NFL player. He will be the best player in our secondary IMO.

This thread has gone from humerous to pathetic pretty quickly. I'll know to stay far away from this place after our first loss (I actually learned this last year).

I left it open I am just saying he brought it on himself and it is his responsibility to end the doubts. I can't blame people for questioning him from his play because he missed time volunterily. If he had got injured or wouldn't of held out longer than any pick except for Leinart I don't think so many people would question him. Throw in his hip and you really can't blame people IMO.

This is a rather idiotic thread. If you look back to last year's secondary, the one that started the year with Madison, Jones, Schulters and Daniels, that you would have to describe as a 'veteran' group, they struggled thru 9-10 games before gelling in Saban's D and now you expect Allen, Allen, Hill and Daniels to step right in and be stars ?? Give it a rest. The preseason is supposed to be for Rookies to learn the pro game. Saban's secondary is very complex, particularly for the safeties. A lot different and more complex than what he came from. He made a mistake last night on one play...what about the rest of the snaps he took ?? Was every play bad that he made ?? I just love the "(Insert rookie name) is a bust threads...shows absolutely no common sense or knowledge of the game....

I agree with you bro. I suppose that's why I should be in VIP. Keeps the loonies out. Dude is not good yet but at least he's no Pac Man Jones.

Hey it has nothing to do with "training camp" he doesn't have the talent to play cb in this league. Now him missing "talent camp" I can understand. But CB isnt really one of those postions where you can use training camp as a crutch. For godsake all he has to do is learn coverage schemes! You telling me that because he missed "training camp" he shouldn't know how to play a postion he has been playing for years...its not a "training" issue its a skill issue.
:sidelol: Yes, training camp is overrated. What are all of these teams thinking? Why not just start the season already? Oh lord.

You display your football knowledge by claiming that college ball is no different from the pros and that all defenses are the same. Just plug and play right?

Calling him untalented just shows that you have another agenda here. Don't like Tennessee perhaps? Hoping for someone else to be drafted? Calling him untalented after two preseason games is flat out absurd. There is no other way to describe it.

And then you say Saban should make his defense easier to understand. Easier for who? Our rookies or the other team? I think the latter would benefit the most from something like that. Saban is a DB specialist, so I think I am going to side with him over someone who thinks DB is simply a plug and play position.

Allen said the reason he got beat for the TD in the last game is because of a misread. He was supposed to stay in coverage but went up to help in run support. By the time he realized it was play action, it was too late. He said he now realizes that he just has to take care of his responsibilty and stay in the right place. These are things a rookie has to learn. Given me than a week in camp, he should be able to learn them and be alright.

wait, did I miss the part where I said College was like the pros......And I never said "plug and play" god like talking to my girlfriend....puttin all these words in my mouth. I said he has been playing DB for yrs and knows how to play the position, and about the scheme thing, a perfect example is the triangle offense in NBA.....its worked in the past because there were talented players to pull it off.....And I also never said that training camp was useless, but stop making excuses for him, if he's not doing well in 6 will you play the same cards? I hope he does well, but from what I've seen he doesn't look like much now. That doesn't mean he wont. The beautiful thing about this thread is in the end we all want the same thing, better players. Some think its too soon to cast stones, hey whatever, I just want to make the playoffs. If he helps us get there I will be overjoyed.

After two preseason games and no training camp?...:whew:...

And depac, I'm sure you would be top notch at both positions after no training camp, 2 very limited preseason games, and attempting to learn two positions in one of the more complex defenses in the league.

Let's just admit what it is you all truly want to say: Saban didn't draft who you wanted and now you are going to search for anything to bash with no true input.

The season has begun here at finheaven. I can only imagine the reaction when Culpepper throws his first interception of the season...
I saw him at Tennessee multiple times and he never impressed. He would make a few good tackles occasionally but all in all he was mediocre at best. Let me guess he missed training camp with the Vols too and they have the most complicated defense in the history of the world? :shakeno:

Allen was not my first choice either, but give the guy a little time. He is trying to learn two positions, and YES it is his own fault for holding out, BUT this is still preseason. I am going to wait to see him play with the first team defense before I start making any kind of judgment on him. Everyone wants instant satisfaction these days. :shakeno:
