Jason Cole: Tom Gamble said to be Ross' top pick for GM

My issue is we could be like the Jets that it took forever and a day to find a GM because they were forcing potential GM's to work with Rex.

Same thing will happen here.

Clean house!!!!! Why is this so easy to see and yet the owner is demanding the GM keep Aponte and Ross? Just sick.

Yeah Jets got turned down by several candidates (including Brian Gaine) but as MadDog said it wasn't just the head coach being kept, it was the lack of flexibility in the cap as well as Woody Johnson being a nutjob of an owner.

People keep mentioning the Jets, but what about the Panthers who did the same damn thing? Difference is the Panthers were much more tedious in their search.

Again not saying that we'll get the best candidate out there, but I remember last year people stating that front office people were hesitant to hook their wagons to the Jets but this year I hear there's a lot of interest in the Fins. Granted, we also have to remember that unlike with coaches teams can flat out refuse to let somebody interview to be a GM if they really want to.
 
Just fire Joe and limit Aponte's clout and this IS without a doubt a good job.

I guess if Joe Philbin demonstrate great skills as a HC, I would not have as much of an issue with forcing a GM to keep him. However, WHAT HAS HE DONE to warrant him being insulated from being fired?

I don't think Ross wants to come on as an owner to hired all the wrong people so maybe that's why he wants to keep Philbin. He doesn't want to admit yet another mistake. People can say what they want but having a CH in place already hurts our chances at hiring the best GM posible. Then again, Ross can offer a ton of money to any canditade and if the person wants the money bad enough then we could get a top GM after all..

That's a good list of candidates. I can see Ross asking the new GM to give Philbin a year and then if it doesn't work out move on...that seems to be pretty common practice in these situations. Good thing is Gamble comes from a WCO organization in Philly so he's well versed in the scheme and the type of players needed.

Ross chose Philbin, but Ross isn't a "football" guy. Ross fell for the bull that Philbin spouted about his system and its "dynamic, explosive offense" that would turn Miami into a high-scoring team. Yeah right. Get a good GM who knows football, and let him pick a suitable Head Coach.
 
Gamble sounds like a good pick. If he's the guy and he accepts the job, that might be a good choice.

I agree, I think new GM gets Philbin for one more year to determine if he likes him, or not.
Who knows, with a new OC & GM, Philbin may prove better then some people think! :idk:
Sounds like Ross likes Philbin...not sure how much that matters...
 
Gamble was the frontrunner for our job last year, for a while he was a supposed lock to get the job. I forget why we passed him over.
 
The way Ross runs things I'm convinced that he inherited his money. How could someone who is so indecisive, gives in to demands, and quite frankly clueless. He's been jerking around with this since he took over the team, first with Parcels, then with trying to lure Harbaugh, Fishers, Getting rid of Soprano, and now this.

Clearly he has no idea how to run an NFL franchise so he needs to bring someone who does and let them do it. It's ironic that during the Martin/Incognito incident he didn't publicly call on Peterson which is fine, but he did rely on the input from some football smart individuals in Shula and Dungy. Marino and Taylor where also consulted.

With this latest scenario how can anyone worth taking the job have any level of confidence in Philbin or Aponte after what's been reported to have happened. Aponte who by all accounts is very good has proven herself as a savy business exec but someone underhanded in that she betrayed Ireland by running to Philbin and telling him what was said. Clean house!
