MERGED: Diversity Group Upset With Mueller Hiring

The problem people are having isn't with the minority guidelines, its that they are getting mad when we only looked at one guy. Pick a random person and chances are it wont be a minority(hence the term minority). I do not deny there is still racism everywhere, but political correctness has gone WAY to far.

unless you go to california, where whites are actually the minority now. and now that whites are the minority, they do not get all of the same benefits that minorities (i.e. mexicans) got in the past. so basically all those benefits, special treatment, etc. for "minorities" was a bunch of bs -- it was actually for races other than whites.

i am not racist at all, and have many friends of many races, but i cannot stand all of the bs about how everything is racist now days. everybody needs to be treated as EQUALS -- not given special treatments because they immigrated here, etc. how about EARNING your way into school, and EARNING your job, and LEARNING the language -- instead of being catered to, and having it given to you simply becauase of your race (and leaving out better qualified candidates)!

Understand before you speak

The ignorance on this message board is astonishing. Not only have you all clearly raised your individual blood pressures for a ghost of an enemy, many of you have disrespected and offended persons of color without you even knowing it. The Alliance, first and foremost is pushing for color in the NFL, because of the disparity of player too front office personnel. By no means are they asking or telling owners to hire minorities, just to give them a shot, a shot not afforded to them regardless of credentials i.e. Marvin Lewis, Lovie Smith, Romeo Crennel, Norm Chow and to many of you "alls" dismay many more candidates, all specialists of one or even both sides of the ball. The talent is out there but because of the "coaching carousel" a phrase conjured up by the media; (just a point: unrealistically reporting on Blacks and minorities with no clear and sound frame of reference) minorities have been repeatedly passed up solely because they are out of the loop and not because of talent. The Alliance only seeks for these candidates to have an opportunity at these positions, which was not afforded to them in a "racially diverse" world. NFL owners like most elite don’t come into contact with minorities even though their "best friend is one." And as we all know you give jobs to people you know and trust or to people you were refereed to by your "non-minority" friend. Thus allowing the apprehension of racism (valid or not) to become a concern. Here in lays the merit of the Alliance organization, a sort of police to infuse minorities in the "coaching carousel."

I agree.
It's the same old tired song and dance.

It's not about "diversity" or "minority" advancement either.
That's sucha crock of %#*$!
We could have hired a Asian, Hispanic, European, Polish, American Indian, etc. and it still would have been an issue because it wasn't an african american hire.

These groups do nothing more but cry at everything and alienate anyone outside of their group who would support their cause if they did things in a positive manner.

Mueller has a long and distinguished career in the NFL.
He was a high profile hire and I doubt there was anyone else of any race with his track record in the GM position available.

John Wooten can stuff it!

completely agree. these groups say they fight for equality, etc. but they really only care about their own race, and make people actually despise them more for that.

This is the world we live in, you just have to deal with it.

Actually, you can't "just deal with it".

Ever heard the saying that "the squeeky wheel gets the grease"?
In other words, those who cry and scream the loudest usually get what they want whether it's right or wrong.

Groups like this one need to be stopped because they are not promoting equality, they are promoting the exact opposite.

Want to know what the funniest thing is about groups complaining of lack of minorities at certain positions in the NFL?

It's all about GLAMOUR. Nothing more, nothing less.

What do you hear the complaining about? Not enough black QBs, not enough black head coaches, not enough black GMs.

Please answer this....how come no one is bitching that there aren't enough black placekickers or punters?

Same thing in baseball. Last year there was a big to-do about the lack of black pitchers. You never hear about the lack of black catchers, do you?

Simple answer, those aren't glamour positions.

Textbook answer.

Insinuate that all are ignorant and racist that have the gall to question the "equality" groups intentions. Classic!

It would be maddening if it wasn't so pathetically funny.

Again, if "equality" is the issue then there would be a movement for more white or hispanic players as well correct?

Equality by definition has to include everyone or it isn't equality.
Care to elaborate with an answer that isn't the typical response?

Bravo!!!! The knee jerk reactionary thought on this board is indeed astonishing yet not surprising. They are asking for a more inclusive PROCESS, not outcome. I think this is fair given the reality of the current state of consciousness amongst humans.

Ignorance breeds hate and hate fosters resentment. Miami fans just think, listen first (not just hear) and than respond, that will be the beginning of us not having to argue about things like this.

Yet again the typical response that anyone who questions is displaying "ignorance".

Sad really.

i agree. when i lived in california, i didn't get into a certain university because my s.a.t. scores weren't high enough -- but those same s.a.t. scores were high enough for "minorities," because their standards are lower (which, if i was a "minority," i would be very offended by the lowering of standards). the same type of thing happened to me when i applied for financial aid at another school. why should somebody less qualified, or less in need, get these things over me just because they are of a different race?!

why does the military have lower physical standards for women? when it comes time for battle, the enemy isn't going to take it easier on them because they are women. and i sure as hell wouldn't want to worry about my back because there is a less qualified person fighting beside me. i'm all for women in the military, but if women really want equality then act like it and make it equal -- they need to be just as qualified as the men if they want to be out there.

these types of groups all say they fight for "equality," but when it's not in their favor they could care less.

I would love to see a little Japanese guy as a head coach in the NFL screaming at players 3 times his size.;)

That's a racist comment. Yao Ming isn't exactly little. There's a 7'8" Chinese man in the NBA draft this year. Not all Orientals are little :D

And that's even MORE racist! They don't like being called "Oriental" anymore...it's "Asian". ;) :D

but that would be racist, because it is for the advancement of whites. the advancement of non-white races, however, is far from racist.
