Merged: Feeley the man

We wont. Gus is putrid. Aj hasnt won the starting job as much as Gus has lost it. As far as I'm concerned I wouldnt mind cutting Gus the Bust and moving Brock up to 3rd string

Guys, Frerotte played against the Steelers first-team D (the one that was the best in the league last year), and he had 4-5 dropped passes from his receivers.

Feeley played against the 3rd string Pitt D, AND the playcalling was drastically different - all quick dumps and outs. look at the yardage on those plays - 3 yards, 4 yards, 4 yards... they were all garbage plays that we called b/c the Pitt DBs were playing off us 5 yards. not hardly showing a "great QB" at all.

The frerotte fumble that stung was the fumble for TD, but that was a HUGE collapse by the o-line and no one seemed to block anybody. the same would have happened to feeley.

This game did nothing to sway the QB batle in either direction guys...

Your kidding us my friend Feeley also played 3 series against first stringers, they did not start to pull first stringers until Feeley's fourth and final series in the third quarter. As far as the yardage and the dump off's Feeley kept the chains moving andThat's what it is all about!!!. Just for the record so the people your trying to mislead wont be fooled, up until Gus's last series he only had 7 yards passing by completing 2 of nine passes which were ALSO DUMPOFF's of 2 and 5 yards thats the TRUTH PEOPLE!!! FEELEY"S THE MAN THAT SHOULD START WITHOUT QUESTION!!!!

good point on the pass comparison, still, the dropped passes killed us and Gussie.

feeley played good, but people are missing the big picture. He had 16 completions and less than 100 yards. He was throwing 4 yard passes when we were down by 17. He didn't play to win, it looked like he was playing just to get a good game on paper.

I say we stick with gus because thats what the players like i think. Feeley had a decent game today, but i wasnt impressed. We were down by 4 yard passes isnt exactly whats going to win games. Sure, he completed 16/20 but he didnt even get 100 yards.

Those are the types of plays that you get with a west coast type offense and many players (Montana, Young) made HOF careers out of. The diference is the yac.
So now you are going to find a criticism of Feeley last night for having a high completion percentage?

After Ferottes inability to put points on the board or even get into the RedZone Feeley better get another chance.

Feeley only having 7 pass attempts as a Starter is just not enough to do anything..
I don't think you'll see Feeley start the rest of the way...here is a quote from Saban after the game last night...the way I read the quote it almost seems like it was pulling teeth to get him to sat A.J. played well..he had to set it up with "they're not playing against the same players"...

''The difficult thing is that it seems whoever plays second plays best but they're not playing against the same players either,'' Saban said. ``You almost have to evaluate how they play when they start. But A.J. did play well in this game.''

Those short passes are a necessity when you play against a team that frequently blitzes. It's called making an adjustment. I'm not taking a side here, but it seems like with some of you Feeley just can't catch a break.

Uhhh didnt Feeley throw the game winning TD ??

Oh, you mean that throw. No, it doesn't count because he just got lucky

Feely

he deserves a shot at #1 because Gus didn't prove to anyone he's the guy. Gus may have an awareness of the offense ahead of AJ, however, I don't think he has the arm to stretch the field. If we could combine Feely's arm and Gus' mind, maybe we'd be ok. this week's of practice is very critical and next week's game is more crucial. of course, the OL makes these guys run for their lives. That's two straight years we haven't really addressed this line in full:shakeno:

to be fair Feeley hasnt proven hes the guy either

I agree with not swapping QBs. Name AJ the starter of week 1 on Monday and stick with it. Gus blows and as sad as it is to say will never be A STARTING CALIBER qb

In 2 starts, playing with the first team offense, playing against 1st string defenders, Gus Frerotte is 13 for 32 for 131 yards and 0 TD. He's not thrown any INTs, but has only led the team to 3 points. In the first game, playing against backups, he completed 2 big passes. One was way underthrown to Chris Chambers in double coverage, lucky to not be intercepted. The other big completion was the TD to Gilmore, which Frerotte admitted just slipped out of his hand, and wasn't even intended for Gilmore. Frerotte has done absolutely NOTHING to earn the starting job. Given his poor performances the last 2 weeks, Feeley deserves a fair chance to play with the first team offense for a half to see what he can do. If all he gets was the measly 7 attempts with the first team in the first pre-season game, then Saban is doing an injustice to the QB competition.

I'm getting to watch the game on tape delay NFL.

After reading this thread, I guess the Feeley is being a feed a series of basic core plays in an attempt to:
1: Showcase and trade
2: Develop some confidence in his abilities and bolster his teammates confidence in him.

Off to watch the game.
