Questions I Still Have for Jonathan Martin

JTC if the opposing defensive lineman is verbally abusive before he comes in abuses Martin on the way to Tannehill is that a hostile work environment? You can't compare NFL to any other work environment....just sayin

I explained this to you in a different thread.
I don't think it was the pranking that cause Martin to walk. I think it's more likely to be the racism and threats that Incognito was directing at him.
There's a difference between pranks and hazing. You seem insistent on rolling it all up into one package. For example, moving someone's car is a prank. It's not meant to harass, abuse, or humiliate.

You might be right if the material is nasty enough. However, I want to see it.

Racism and threats would have had an employee in a typical job setting fired....that is what Martin dealt with...

Go to a Union hall or union work site and come back with this jibber jabber.

A Union rep is on every team in the NFL. A union steward if you will, who is there to observe and help enforce union rules and guide lines. Martin is a PROFESSIONAL football player, who has the ability to talk to his UNION REP at any time while working. Excuse his inability to handle this with some maturity, I won't. He quit on his team and went to the media. Something that isn't necessary unless you are looking for the lime light to air your grievances.

Martin needs to make a public statement and stop hiding behind the media.

He went to the coach and nothing was done....in fact he kept this pretty quiet until he reached his breaking point...

I don't excuse how Martin handled it at all, but the fact that many are focusing so much effort on trying to make him out to be the bad guy in all of this is sad. We can always ask about Incognito's maturity in all of this...

We have no idea how he handled this situation in the months leading up to walking out and we have no idea what efforts he may have made to deal it prior to walking out. But let me ask you this, why should he have stayed and continued to work in that environment?

Because he is a professional in a sport that has a Union, with Union reps on every team. Go through your proper channels and if that doesn't work, go to the media if that is what you want.

I unlike most here am not basing my opinion on assumptions. I am strictly talking about the normal procedures of union grievances and problems on work sites.

Why isn't Martin showing up to work if Incognito is suspended? Is he NOW afraid of what his teammates might do to him? It never ends.

Give him the balance of the salary and let him go.

Again, he should have gone to his UNION rep. Why don't you and many others understand this? Every team has a Union rep that is there to ensure safety and a quality work place.

Martin is the bad guy. 6'5 350 lb cry baby football players are bad for the sport and bad for human kind....Martin do us all a favor and pull the trigger

He's the bad guy because he handled the situation like a spoiled child. He took his ball and went home. A Stanford educated MAN, with a degree, was unable to talk to his UNION PLAYER REP, and left HIS team. The NFLPA is the FIRST line of defense in the work place for the NFL. Its why they have reps for EVERY team.

As for Incog, he should have known he was dealing with a CHILD and left him alone. Should have let Martins sub par abilities on the field speak for who Martin is as a professional.

I was watching NFL Network this a.m. Nothing like starting off your day w/ Nicole Zaloumis, but I digress...

Joe will now get blowback from the union and Incognito's people.

Apparently, Philbin & co thought they had it wrapped up this past spring but it resurfaced again. Last yrs Leadership council tells me Philbin knows how nip things in the bud. Until I learn otherwise, Joe P gets a pass. Philbin has better things to do than mediate Jr High antics.

Incognito is a bad human being and Jonathan Martin handled this as badly as it could be handled. What are you gonna do? Fire everyone, suspend Incognito for the duration of the season,

Agreed on the character analysis of both players. It was this a.m. I learned Incog has been suspended indefinitely.

I said yesterday this will be a PR nightmare and its shaping up that way

Of course you can. We don't have a different set of laws regarding hostile workplace for the NFL as opposed to any other job.

You might be right if the material is nasty enough. However, I want to see it.

That's starting to leak out now, along with the fact that this is something that the organization has dealt with before and thought they'd fixed. Apparently it wasn't.

Do we know he didn't approach a union rep about this? It's unlikely, since this involves two players, that the union would have made that fact public. And the union would have an obligation to protect both players, so that comes with a built in conflict of interest.

Of course you're basing your opinion on assumptions. You're assuming Martin didn't go through normal procedures before getting to this point. That's a HUGE assumption.

Why isn't Martin showing up to work if Incognito is suspended? Is he NOW afraid of what his teammates might do to him? It never ends.

At this point, he's probably been advised not to by both his lawyer and his union.

The amount of hiding behind bro code meat head crap and victim blaming from the beginning on this board was stunning. Decent human beings don't do this to one another it isn't college its a Professional Football league full of men not kids. Hazing should be out lawed heck is already outlawed in college because stupid **** like this happens all the time. Men don't have to act like apes to fight side by side with each other grow the **** up

Both Martin and Incognito will be interviewed (by the Dolphins HR department if not already, and the NFLPA) and these sound like the typical questions they will be asked.
1. What date did he receive these text messages and voice mail? Are they recent or something from awhile back.

2. If they are from awhile ago, what possessed him to keep them for a later date and not immediately report the communication?

3. When did Martin specifically go to management about the alleged bullying?

4. Why did the simple prank of players getting up from a lunch table and moving to another so as not to sit with Martin set him over the edge and make these workplace hostility complaints?

5. Does Martin have mental disorders?

6. How much does him getting replaced at LT go into his frustration of all that has transpired?

7. Was Jonathan Martin involved in hazing of other players?

8. What is Martin's endgame? Does he expect to return and under what circumstances?

*** The focus is no on Incognito and what he did and that is appropriate. Incognito might have done some mean-spirited things. Soon, it will shift to what Joe Philbin, Jeff Ireland and Dawn Aponte knew and what they did/didn't do.

However, it is fair to ask questions of Martin and his conduct through this entire episode.

I still have issues with Jonathan Martin. How does the lunchroom prank spiral into this major news story? I am not going to lie: I am so disappointed this has turned into a distraction for a team trying to find its way in the league. There were many other ways Martin could have handled this and he chose not to. I hope Martin understands how he elected to handle this might have costed the jobs of a slew of people within the organization. As a player, I would not want him back into the locker room. I would trust him as far as I could throw Sun Life Stadium. All of those players saying last week they would welcome him back I bet will not be making those comments anymore...and if they do, it is not honest.

Did Martin ever tell Incognito to stop it?
