JTC if the opposing defensive lineman is verbally abusive before he comes in abuses Martin on the way to Tannehill is that a hostile work environment? You can't compare NFL to any other work environment....just sayin
I explained this to you in a different thread.
I don't think it was the pranking that cause Martin to walk. I think it's more likely to be the racism and threats that Incognito was directing at him.
There's a difference between pranks and hazing. You seem insistent on rolling it all up into one package. For example, moving someone's car is a prank. It's not meant to harass, abuse, or humiliate.
Racism and threats would have had an employee in a typical job setting fired....that is what Martin dealt with...
Go to a Union hall or union work site and come back with this jibber jabber.
A Union rep is on every team in the NFL. A union steward if you will, who is there to observe and help enforce union rules and guide lines. Martin is a PROFESSIONAL football player, who has the ability to talk to his UNION REP at any time while working. Excuse his inability to handle this with some maturity, I won't. He quit on his team and went to the media. Something that isn't necessary unless you are looking for the lime light to air your grievances.
We have no idea how he handled this situation in the months leading up to walking out and we have no idea what efforts he may have made to deal it prior to walking out. But let me ask you this, why should he have stayed and continued to work in that environment?
He went to the coach and nothing was done....in fact he kept this pretty quiet until he reached his breaking point...
I don't excuse how Martin handled it at all, but the fact that many are focusing so much effort on trying to make him out to be the bad guy in all of this is sad. We can always ask about Incognito's maturity in all of this...

Joe will now get blowback from the union and Incognito's people.
Incognito is a bad human being and Jonathan Martin handled this as badly as it could be handled. What are you gonna do? Fire everyone, suspend Incognito for the duration of the season,

You might be right if the material is nasty enough. However, I want to see it.

Because he is a professional in a sport that has a Union, with Union reps on every team. Go through your proper channels and if that doesn't work, go to the media if that is what you want.
I unlike most here am not basing my opinion on assumptions. I am strictly talking about the normal procedures of union grievances and problems on work sites.
Why isn't Martin showing up to work if Incognito is suspended? Is he NOW afraid of what his teammates might do to him? It never ends.
1. What date did he receive these text messages and voice mail? Are they recent or something from awhile back.
2. If they are from awhile ago, what possessed him to keep them for a later date and not immediately report the communication?
3. When did Martin specifically go to management about the alleged bullying?
4. Why did the simple prank of players getting up from a lunch table and moving to another so as not to sit with Martin set him over the edge and make these workplace hostility complaints?
5. Does Martin have mental disorders?
6. How much does him getting replaced at LT go into his frustration of all that has transpired?
7. Was Jonathan Martin involved in hazing of other players?
8. What is Martin's endgame? Does he expect to return and under what circumstances?
*** The focus is no on Incognito and what he did and that is appropriate. Incognito might have done some mean-spirited things. Soon, it will shift to what Joe Philbin, Jeff Ireland and Dawn Aponte knew and what they did/didn't do.
However, it is fair to ask questions of Martin and his conduct through this entire episode.
I still have issues with Jonathan Martin. How does the lunchroom prank spiral into this major news story? I am not going to lie: I am so disappointed this has turned into a distraction for a team trying to find its way in the league. There were many other ways Martin could have handled this and he chose not to. I hope Martin understands how he elected to handle this might have costed the jobs of a slew of people within the organization. As a player, I would not want him back into the locker room. I would trust him as far as I could throw Sun Life Stadium. All of those players saying last week they would welcome him back I bet will not be making those comments anymore...and if they do, it is not honest.
