Ray Farmer, Browns new GM

Woah!! - This should be pretty interesting. Farmer was thought to be relatively inexperienced in evaluating college players and ultimately backed out of the Dolphin second interview. The Browns also appointed Kyle Shanahan as OC the other day. Time will tell how well Hickey and Lazor perform in their jobs, but the comparative performance of the teams will be there for everyone to see. Jimmy Haslem and Stephen Ross should have an interesting chat some day.
I'm comfortable with the guys we appointed but this is all about making the right appointments. Time will tell.

It will be hard to compare anything with Weeden. If they get rid of him with the first move, they are going in the right direction...

Seriously our owner and staff can't come close to touching the dysfunction in Cleveland!

Adding to the dysfunction, say what you will about Ross, but one thing you can't is that he built his empire on crooked business practices. When your owner is a potential crook with existing charges hanging over him, maybe Chud and Lombardi are to be envied :idk:

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam admitted in a news conference Monday that an ongoing criminal probe into his Knoxville company "has been a distraction".

Haslam's Pilot Flying J Travel Centers have been under a federal investigation into alleged fuel rebate fraud since April 15, 2013 when a team of FBI agents raided the company's Knoxville headquarters.

In a news conference Monday, Haslam was asked about the impact of the federal probe on his involvement with the Cleveland Browns.

"Has it been a distraction for me in terms of having time to spend here over the lasts six month?" said Haslam.

"Yes".

On Tuesday, Farmer briefly addressed why he backed out of the running in Miami.

“That job was not right for Ray Farmer,” he told the Cleveland media.

It is an interesting statement. Multiple GM candidates felt the same way in terms of Miami’s structure. Nick Caserio of the New England Patriots and Lake Dawson of the Tennessee Titans turned down offers from the Dolphins, mostly because they had no say on the future of head coach Joe Philbin. Both the head coach and general manager are on equal footing in Miami and will report directly to the owner.

What's interesting is Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslam said Tuesday that Farmer and head coach Mike Pettine will report directly to Haslam, similar to Miami's structure. Were there other factors involved that scared Farmer away from Miami?

Farmer said he was not promised Cleveland’s GM opening when he took his name out the running in Miami. But Farmer made it clear Tuesday that he’s much more confident in the Browns’ organization than the Dolphins.

Well at least we can count on Cleveland to make us feel better!

It's amazing how Haslam and Ross are polar opposites, but equally as dysfunctional.

One is patient to a fault, the other is impatient to a fault. Balance is key!

obviously its about knowing when to hold them, and when to fold them. Neither owner has a clue which hand his dick is in.

Honestly, makes as much sense as the penis ships in Man of steel.

Since 2010, Browns have employed Holmgren and Banner as upper-level execs, Kokinis, Heckert, Lombardi and now Farmer as GMs. Unreal.

4 GMs and 2 czars in four years sounds like great job security...

Don't forget that he also went through Shumer and Chudzinski to get to Pettine as Head Coaches, as well.
It must be fun to be a billionaire, buy a team. Make the tough decisions. Seems like everybody's out of step except Jimmy.

You realize that his Pilot Flying J truck stop chain senior executives probably have the evidence to send him to jail. He's probably a billionaire crook.
His brother is Governor of Tennessee (R) and ran on ethics and family values.

People are whining. We got our guy who cares what anyone else does or how the media perceives us versus another team that sucks even more than us.

Wow, this is really surprising to me. I think Farmer will be a good GM. I liked him as a candidate in Miami, but I really had a distaste for the public way he turned down Miami with all the theatrics and his being a source for La Canfora.

I think Cleveland could actually turn it around at some point if they can get a qb. Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Joe Thomas and Alex Mack on offense, with Joe Haden, TJ Ward, Rubin, Kruger, and Mingo on D. There is a nucleus of talent if they can get a QB. They have a ton of picks this year. There has been talk they could make a move for Kirk Cousins due to Kyle Shanahan's presence.

You would think he would come out with something considering he worked with Lombardi on NFL Network for a while. They did a lot of segments together.

I suspect that La Canfora won't trash Cleveland because he and Ray Farmer are buds. You could see how Farmer and/or his agent were funneling info to La Canfora during the Miami search. La Canfora is not going to screw Farmer because of that bias.

The amount of media manipulation being done by Farmer and his backers cooled me on him somewhat.

Farmer was and is a **** candidate! Obviously he got the power in Cleveland he wouldn't have got in Miami. Which is fine by me because we dodged a bullet for sure!

Obviously, Farmer had a secret, handshake agreement with Haslam when he turned down the second interview with the Dolphins which lead to another round of inaccurate reporting and more unnecessary piling on the Fins for their so called dysfunctional, confusing structure.

absolutely, i was ABSOLUTELY flamed this morning when i brought this to Mike Silver' attention today, with his side comment about the Dolphins

he KNEW Lombardi would be fired, thats why he stayed

What power? Cleveland is behind the scenes employing the SAME strategy we are, where ALL partied report to him,

At least Ross is PATIENT, he rather work for Haslem? he is a MORON for choosing Cleveland

him and Lombardi are partners, Lombardi will be rehired from CBS Sports by the end of the day, however he could care less about any of the 31 other teams in the league, he loves honing in when Dolphins make blunders or mistakes
