Running and defense wins championships

Chiefs winning wasn’t even really the point.

No matter who won, the more relevant point was always that the Chiefs are going to have a longer window to contend for more superbowls than the 49ers will with that defense - once they all have to get paid.

Top players on that defense will be scattered all over the league while Mahomes and Reid take the mantle from Brady and Belichick in the AFC.

The 49ers have a closing window IMO. Most of their key vets are signed to lucrative contracts already which doesn’t leave money for the upcoming guys. They will lose Armstead this offseason for that exact reason. Also, outside of Sherman (who turns 32 soon) they don’t really have a solid secondary.

The Chiefs are set for years to come. Mahomes is the real deal. For 3 quarters he looked terrible and then he went red hot and carried the team to a SB win. The thing with him is that any given time he can simply take over a game (the Texans game is another excellent example).

KC didn't have to liquidate their assets in hopes of getting Mahomes either

That Chiefs defense came a long way from where they were early in the season. The Honey Badger like KC safeties before him, helped that defense establish a identity.

A freaking kudos to ol Red. His scheme and game plan is at a peak right now. His adjustments, from game to game, half to half was some great work.

Watching Damien Williams work at a decent clip, was what he is. Dependable.

Kelce .... I want one of those in Miami. For decades. The Chiefs go from Tony G to Kelce like they grow on trees.

And Mahomes. We witnessed the best in the game right now at QB. Now its about longevity and consistency. How many years left in Ol Reds tank? Bienemy might be smart to ride it out there.

It was a good game.

Yeah it’s a QB league. It has been. D wins championships and I dont want to slight the chefs D for the game they had of their own - especially in the 4th. The Niners D was relentless and hit Mahomes all game / hurried him and for 3 quarters he was not good. But it only took him 1 quarter to do his thing while Jimmy G was busy stinking it up when it counted. You can win w a care taker QB but you better draw a team that won’t figure out your D before the game is over. Like Peyton did to Chicago or tonight are good examples. Jimmy G, Rex Grossman just couldn’t elevate and make a play.
18-22 of passing using the p/a including Kittles push off - and yet he couldn’t drive when it counted

Love it.

Cast aside your stuffy old cliches, we are entering a brave new world, and our attitude towards filling the most important position needs to match that.

Lol.

Like many of us have been saying, get the mother****ing QB at all cost and go from there. Without it, we're at best building a front running team that is incapable of taking a game when we need to.

Exactly this. I do think the 49ers have more of a window than most teams in a similar situation because of Kyle Shanahan (because of his playcalling/not game management), but it will be interesting to see if they look to upgrade QB, and that D is going to lose pieces fast.

KC is in such a great spot to win multiple SB's. No guarantees in football, but when you have the two most important pieces in place, you're sitting pretty.

Winning a Super Bow is so....situation based. Going through a season with minimal injuries, having players step up and play beyond their norm, other teams failing. I think the idea that KC will always be in a position to make that run....same with Seattle. Whether or not these teams actually get there in win it a bunch of times, while desirable, is not typical. Being in a consistent position is what you want...those 11 plus win seasons, playoff every year...that is the end goal.
