Time to Question the leadership in the Ravens' locker room

Here's an article I just read on the Ray Rice press conference. The best part is the first comment below it, which sounds very familiar.

http://espn.go.com/blog/baltimore-ravens/post/_/id/9998/another-major-misstep-by-rice-rice

And the comment after:

Ray Rice needs to be suspended for a long time and undergo extensive psychological reprogramming and then monitoring. Spousal battery is rarely a 1 time occurence and no matter how contrite the batterer might be, he's going against his default behavior. Consequently, the danger of recidivism beyond a very egregious, public, violent act is looming and for the safety of his wife who's now enabling him in classic fashion, if the league doesn't alter his behavior, possible homicidal results down the road are on the Ravens and the league. As far as his father being there to support him, how do we know that he wasn't the one setting the misogynistic examples for Rice growing up?

I agree with all of it. The law gives too many outs for this. It shouldn't rely on whether the woman wants to press charges or not. You just committed a felony ON CAMERA. Prison. Seems simple, but somehow it isn't.

No clue what the Ravens homer was talking about regarding the father being there as a defense, but I have zero doubt I'd be reading the same nonsense on here if it were a Phin.

Not sure what news programs you are watching, but I've seen those stories all over, particularly the first two. There are tons of articles blasting the 49ers for their handling of the Smith situation. If it was a Phins player, people would be whining about how the media has an "agenda" against the team (I'm sure some 49er fans are).

But I guess that doesn't fit the "everyone is against us" thing. What's funny is that the article in the OP is a Florio article, which is strange because I thought he only went after the Phins...
Where is the league required mental exam for Aldon Smith and Ray Rice? I must have missed that news also.

And Suh! 6 violent unprovoked attacks of defenseless defenders - and then Schwartz enabled him by naming him as a co-captain. And I won't even get into the racial possibilities. Using the playing field to vent his own uncontrollable rage.. and then he gets rewarded? Where's the logic in that?

Since when is a mental exam worse than the potential suspensions they are facing (and who knows if they won't make them do mental exams?)?

My god people are way too pissed off about the mental exam. You'd think the league is forcing him to serve a prison sentence in a Thai prison. Get over it. It's not that big of a deal. Just be happy he's likely not going to be suspended.

if he was a phin certain posters would be making excuses for him.

Ray deserves a severe punishment as any player from any team doing that would. I just hate how fans(not all but too many) excuse certain behavior for their guys and bash others b/c they aren't on the team they root for. it's despicable behavior no matter what team you root for.

God forbid the league try and help Pouncey! Ever think this counseling isn't punative and an attempt to wake him up? Since his UF days Pouncey has a long track record of bad decisions placing him in sketchy situations. Maybe just maybe it will grow him up save his career and keep him out of prison. His behavior and decision making has him on that road! FYI the league didn't order Smith for a eval because they are smart enough to know he got one in rehab.

If the Ravens released Rice and we signed him, I can already see the misogynistic comments that would follow.

"She probably deserved it."
"She's just a gold-digger, preparing for that eventual divorce money."
"She was obviously drunk and just fell into his fist."
"The media made the video knowing he would eventually sign with the Phins so they could write inflammatory articles about the team!!1! #mediaagenda"

Not to be a dik but what does the Raven's locker room leadership or lack there of have to do with our team ?
Maybe the general NFL discussion thread would be more appropriate.

We need to be a little less defensive about our media coverage. It is what it is. Only time can change that.

I'm not sure a mental exam on Pouncey would find that he has brains at all.

Yeah Bill Belichick has a mass murderer in his locker room and he is allowed to go silent about it! Our coaching staff is supposed to know that grown men are downstairs talking about each others mother! Get real!

I have no doubt this would show up here somewhere.

Come on media what are you waiting for? Oh wait, Martin being a soft b*tch is clearly means the Fins locker room is more void of leaders.

Double standard at it's best. Hope nobody on the Dolphins dare sneeze to loudly in camp, or we will be reading how players in Miami are again being disruptive.

If a Dolphin's player were to have knocked his girlfriend/wife out, we would still be reading about it, and probably continue well into the pre-season.

Man I live in ATL and I can tell you that nobody cares nor do they respect the Dolphins. Any team/player could do anything and it would draw mimimal reactions but if its a Dolphins OMG we will get called everything. And do let Heath Evans talk about the issue on NFL network, he lives to bash the Dolphins.
