Just spitballing here, but it’s interesting to note that Kyle Shanahan and the two Shanny protégés, McVey and LaFleur, who came up alongside McDaniel, all moved on from the QB they inherited within 4 years. 2 of them moved on despite having gone to the SB with that inherited QB, and then returned to the SB with a new QB, and the other replaced a hall of fame QB who he had gone to back to back NFC Championship games with, and then had success and a playoff win in the first year with a new starting QB.

All 3 of those situations were very different from one another and are obviously different from Tua’s situation, but I wonder if there is some degree of trepidation on McDaniel’s part about being tied to Tua for another 5 years after seeing the success his friends have had after moving on from a QB that they were already winning with.

I don’t care what they do as long as they win. If they win with Tua, great, if they win with someone else, that’s great too.

Could be That Chris Grier and athletes first don't have a great working relationship, did they not also rep Christian wilkins?

I think Tua's agent needs to stop leaking info to Jeremy Fowler and Jeff Darlington and let things work itself out.

if the Dolphins don't want to work it out now and he balls out this year it will be a lot more on the other side.

That's true.

It is also true that if he doesn't or ends up injured, we aren't on the hook for $200m.in guarantees.

Putting aside emotion for a minute, is it better to keep options open, even though the long term risk may cost a single digit percentage more? Or is it better to be locked in to a huge guaranteed investment before absolutely necessary?

In this case, to me, it's a close call. Close enough that I haven't a big problem with Grier and Co's choice either way.

I can see coherent arguments from both factions but it's ultimately Grier's call and he is being paid well to look out for the longer than one season welfare of the franchise.

Nice post brother. :ffic:

It's starting to look like a distinct possibility, unless Tua lowers his apparent expectations.

I know there are those that vehemently (literally) disagree but from a business standpoint, Grier's position of either a team friendly contract or play on the option is quite pragmatic.
Anything is possible but if they don’t want to pay him, he won’t have any trouble finding a team to pay him market value as a free agent.

I don’t see any QB’s in the 2025 draft or possible free agent QB’s that will be anywhere close to the QB Tua is. So if they don’t want to pay him, I guess they just plan to start the next rebuild after the 2024 season and hope they find a quarterback in the next 5-10 years.

Wasn't a selling point on McDaniel the fact he wanted to work with Tua as QB?

That would be great we either have our franchise QB, or we have something to trade for one heck of a package of picks.

Absolutely. Of course that’s what McVay said about working with Goff and Shanahan said about working with Garoppolo. They were probably being honest at the time, and they did each reach the Super Bowl with those guys. They each also decided after 4 years that it wasn’t going to work. Though in the case of Garopollo, Shanahan decided to move on from him much earlier than that but then they were unable to get rid of him and Lance got injured.
