Just spitballing here, but it’s interesting to note that Kyle Shanahan and the two Shanny protégés, McVey and LaFleur, who came up alongside McDaniel, all moved on from the QB they inherited within 4 years. 2 of them moved on despite having gone to the SB with that inherited QB, and then returned to the SB with a new QB, and the other replaced a hall of fame QB who he had gone to back to back NFC Championship games with, and then had success and a playoff win in the first year with a new starting QB.
All 3 of those situations were very different from one another and are obviously different from Tua’s situation, but I wonder if there is some degree of trepidation on McDaniel’s part about being tied to Tua for another 5 years after seeing the success his friends have had after moving on from a QB that they were already winning with.
I don’t care what they do as long as they win. If they win with Tua, great, if they win with someone else, that’s great too.
