The TExas HOLDem Poker Thread

Are you kidding me.. If both Phils sat down and played whatever game Hellmuth wanted Ivey would still crack him.. Hellmuth routinely gets owned in the "big game".. Espn and anyone that told you Hellmuth was the best is dead wrong..

Did Hellmuth personally tell you he was the best..

I watch a lot of poker, and there is no one as good as Helmuth. The guy is amazing. Anytime he loses it's because of miracle cards flopping on the river. The guy really is amazing at reading. He does however get caught up into mind games when things don't go well, but you can't be serious in saying PH isn't the best. Is he a bit of a jerk? Yes... But I'm talking skills. Very few if anyone is a better all around player(and if we're talking hold-em, there is no one better).

Phil Hellmuth is no doubt a great player but to think he is the best in the world is crazy.. The best poker players in the world play in the 4k-8k game with Ivey, Brunson, Reese, Harman, Greenstein, Giang.. Phil Hellmuth has rountinely been owned in this game.. He hardly wastes his time even playing in the game because he makes money in so many other ways (marketing). He may be one of the top NL Holdem tourney players but he isn't the best all-around player by any stretch..

I just got back from Vegas yesterday, and was very successful in hold em. I first sat at a 1/2 NL holdem table with $100, and within 3hrs had over $1000 in front of me. The next day I took down a $60 SNG for $300, and then out of sheer luck hit a royal flush on a video poker for another $1010. This was my first time playing live at a casino, and definitely have the bug to do it many more times.

i'm gonna guess he's BSing... to x10 your money in three hours is highly unlikely, unless playing with a table of fools..

Nice to finally see a thread around here about this. A few things:

NL Texas Hold'em is hobby of mine, so yeah I'm down for a FH game sometime. Just let me know.

Hellmuth is no where near the top player in the game right now. That honor belongs to Negreanu with Phil Ivey a very close second. The reads, plays and moves that Negreanu makes are simply unmatched right now. Heads up, I'd put him at a favorite against anyone.

I don't even know if i'd put Hellmuth in the top 5 players right now, top 10 for sure though. His game is relying too much on his name now, bullying the amatures around. It just seems like if Hellmuth gets rattled, and its becoming more and more frequent that he does, then his game goes completely off the hinge and he can't recover. This is especially true if he's playing against the top pros. I think Green made this point: from what's shown on tv, if Hellmuth is playing against the top pros (Ivey, Negreanu, Brunson, Harmon, Forrest, etc.) then he is going to be towards the bottom of the chip count and stay that way. And he's got some pretty obvious tells too, and that's just from watching him on TV. (i.e. watch how he sits, leaning on both his hands, elbows on the table when he's got a hand....)

The "crazy" guy with the upside down sunglasses is Marcel Luske, a top European pro. He'd be a top American pro if he played more in the US. But as far as I know, he only plays in the WSOP here in the states.

You got that from watching one hand?

These events you see on TV show maybe what? 22 hands? You do know that these shows are edited and don't show all of the hands right?

Phil hellmuth is an authority in NL Holdem Tournaments. he is still capable of having big performances..just like he did in the 2005 TOC.

The best player in the world is Phil Ivey, and it's not close. Daniel doesn't play that much in the big game anymore and has never played in the big game as much as Phil Ivey has. Phil Ivey has been a winner in that game for every year he has played in it, his tournamnet results are spectacular, and he never tilts. phil Ivey is tops right now.
