Maddox close to signing: 790 the ticket

Hopefully, he'll never see the field and from what I've seen Lemon will beat him out for the #2 spot anyways. Even Berlin might give him a run for the #3 spot.

What are you on?? Maddox was just signed and there's no doubt about him being the backup. Lemon is the one who will never see the field (aside from preseason). I dont care what ANYBODY "saw". What in the world have you seen that Lemon will beat Maddox out? Nothing. that's why the veteran will backup Culpepper and the young-en will hold the Clipboard. That's what the REAL WORLD in the NFL is like. Not how people want it to be. & by the way: Berlin wont even make this team..AGAIN. (although I liked him)

In the real world (and in Saban's) the better player will be the #2 guy. Just like Sage last year passed AJ even though AJ had more experience and made more money. And do you know how they decided Sage was better? They based it on what they saw.

I still haven't seen any verification that we signed him.

Maddox isn't someone I'd be excited to see coming onto the field but I'm with you that he's light years ahead of Lemon or Berlin which are our only other options on the roster.

That is my exact point. I am not a big Maddox fan..but he is a better option right now than Berlin or Lemon.

We should of kept Gus.

I've been saying this the whole time.

Any idea what money Collins would be wanting?

Granted, he has had problems in the past, but his efficiency improved last year and he cut down on his TO's. He does have a big arm and would allow us to keep our gameplan in tact in such a situation.

Don't ya think he'd take a pay cut for a shot at the SuperBowl on a one year deal?

It's not as if his name is popping up a lot. Cheap veteran with a big arm and SB experience. Sound like a "Saban recruit"?

Peterson going to Seattle

Sorry, don't know if this was posted yet...but just heard on ESPN tha Julian Peterson is going to be a Seahawk.

Hope we can still get L. Arrington

Gus wasn't going to stay unless he restructured his contract and he never did. That is why he is gone.

All I know, is if we sign Maddox, we better go out and ink a big name like Arrington. I really hope we have enough money for both. It would really suck to be stuck with Maddox and no free agent linebacker. If we can't get Arrington, then let's go for Brooks or Griese.

Yes, but what is "price" of finding someone with 1 year experience with our receivers and has proven he can win in this system?

Considering Daunte's health, the premium should have been paid for at least one more year.

While I know we only have a finite amount of money... this is one of Saban's moves I don't agree with. Which is 100% completely my perogative! :cooldude:

Sure it's your perogative, but without knowing any facts it sounds naive. Gus was clearly Saban's first option as a backup. They actually met to negotiate several times. For all you know, Saban was also willing to pay a premium. Maybe Gus wanted even more. Or maybe Gus just preferred to play with Linehan or didn't like the fans here treated his family like crap. Who knows. What we do know is that Saban first attempted to sign Gus as a backup.

Beat me to it.
You have to give Saban that.
We had offered for Gus to come back.
It was reported that he took things a little too hard and was a little bitter.
Too bitter for him to pass on the opportunity of playing for what is obviously his fav. coach in St. Louis.

EXACTLY. THey based it on what "THEYSAW". Not what Pepito on Finheaven "wants"! NEVER, at any time, has ANYONE seen or read or heard or smelled anything ANYWHERE that says Lemon is going to beat out Maddox (a proven veteran with tons of experience & a SB ring) (and a BACKUP QB JOB, by the way) out of the #2 spot. That's right...THE REAL WORLD. Thats why Maddox was signed here. TO BACK UP CULPEPPER. So that in case Daunte is not ready to go on opening day, we've at least got a proven journeyman who knows how to play...as opposed to a snot-nose, wet behind the ears guy who has never TAKEN A SNAP in this game. So go and think about what is REALISTIC.
& just for your info: Sage passed up AJ on the depth chart because it was PAINFULLY obvious how BAD Feeley was (is). It doesn't take a hall of fame coach to see that Sage is DEFINATELY better than Feeley.
