Holliday signs w/ Fins

Well, having Taylor on the other side should mean Holliday gets plenty of chances to beat one-on-one blocking. If the idea is to also sign Carter, then I really, really like our DL depth and the defensive options.

After the nightmare that was last year? Getting run on by everyone?

Besides, both these guys are solid vets, but have already gotten big money contracts in the past and seem willing to take more modest money now.

Add another big LB to the mix, and a part-time 3-4 seems possible. Depends a lot on how well Taylor and Zach and some of the other guys can adjust to it. Otherwise, we are better with just rotating the above depth in a 4-3 defense. I'm good either way. I'd rather see these moves than 1 or 2 BIG FA contract players signed.

Following up on an earlier post...

18. Robert Edwards, RB, New England Patriots. Pro Bowls: 0.

19. Vonnie Holliday, DE, Green Bay Packers. A pleasant surprise as a rookie, but not much lately. Ex-GM Ron Wolf won't lie. He missed on a chance to steal Moss. Pro Bowls: 0.

20.Terry Fair, CB, Detroit Lions. Pro Bowls: 0.

21.Randy Moss, WR, Minnesota Vikings. Pro Bowls: Lots.

...29.John Avery, RB, Miami Dolphins. We're throwing this one in there because Jimmy Johnson traded the 19th pick to Green Bay just before the draft got under way. Avery was a bust. Pro Bowls: 0.

Taylor and Bowens are gonna move to outside linebackers.

teh Miami herald states reports that it is, I think that Jason Taylor might be on the trading block

i would of prefered to see Burgess and Carter signed! Holliday hasnt done much for a while!

Possibly since T. Bowens is getting older nagging injuries etc. they want Carter for DT and rotate in Bowens

Carter w/b a great replacement for B Robinson and Zgonina, but he could never play NT in a 3-4 like those 2. He w/b a perfect DE in a 3-4 w/Holiday and Chester/T Bo at NT

good pickup. Same old story, put someone as the #2 star at his position (behind JT) and he's much more likely to excel.

what it means is this... so many different looks...

we could line up with a Dline of Carter, Holliday, T-Bo and Chester... good luck running on that.

we could line up with a Dline of Carter, Holliday, Taylor, and D-Bo... good luck with that pass rush.

we could line up with a Dline of Carter, Holliday, and either T-Bo or Chester... a 3-4 look.

Taylor and D-Bo will probably get some reps at LB... maybe even some five man fronts...

Holliday gives us soooo many options - nice pickup, i'm pleased with it.

Big expense for that down and distance situation though. I foresee Holliday (and Carter if signed) as precipitating a move toward a lot more 3-4 fronts than a lot of people admitted we'd see.

as I recall, after many threads arguing about the 4-3 3-4, someone pointed out that Sabin did not really run much of a 3-4...he ran alot of stuff that looked like it. I am all for ANYTHING that shores up our sissy run defense and if it allows another option within our defence then I am for that too.

Well said. If you read between the lines, it sounds like Saban wants to make the defense as flexible as possible. No more "we're gonna line up in our base defense and if you think you can beat us go ahead and try" defensive schemes. Having the option to do both a 3-4 and a 4-3 depending on the situation would cause some confusion for opposing offenses. And while I know Saban isn't Belichick, they're cut from the same mold, and look at all the different looks the Pats defense gives.

Saban is Belechicks godfather. belechick is really worried my friends. No team is going to have a clue what we will be doing next year. I pitty JP Losman and Tom Brady and the guy in NY who will get booed out of town.
