Are We Too In Love With Myles Gaskin?

Yes, we are.

The Pats won with whomever because they had a mature Tom Brady...but I remember a younger Tom Brady had Cory Dillon running behind a good o-line.

It wouldn't hurt to get Tua a feature back...especiallt if the line improves with the addition of Hunt.

I think regardless of what the team does with Gaskin or Breida this year the team will look to bring in a guy somewhere next year. I just think the organization wanted to build in the trenches first on both sides before addressing the skill positions. We've definitely seen that pay dividends on the offensive line so far. I was frustrated that we didn't get good value on high potential backs in the draft, but I understand the strategy. I just hope the team executed on picks that at times felt like were reaches just to stick to their draft plan.

You never watched Marino, yet you have this theory?

Marino had an ego. How could he not. However, this is hogwash.

Marino wanted to win more than anyone I've ever seen. He wore his heart on his sleeve, and you could tell all he cared about was winning.

I had to correct my original response - I was referring to Higgs when I said never watched him play.

He looks like a 3rd down back playing all 3 downs. The truth is our other backs have looked pretty horrible. Howard looks slow hasn't gotten more then 2 yards on one play and Breida goes down on first contact

I believe that this is EXACTLY the role he will fill next year.

Next year...

BTW... I'm really hoping for Etienne

If he's there in the second (unlikely), run that card up there...unless Humphrey is still available. If that's the case throw 17 million ar Henry. Hia contract will be up by the time we have to ante up for Tua.

I think he'll go in the bottom of the first and as the first RB off the board... with our 4 picks in the first 2 rounds, we can have him if we want him. Just like the Chiefs got their guy this year.

I will say that so far....Gaskin is the only in the backfield who has displayed any twitch or burst. Maybe its because he can hide behind his blockers or gets lost in the chaos.

Breida made a really nice pass reception today. But Breida also really hasn't gotten enough carries to have much opportunity to show what he has. He's had 4 games and only 18 carries. Gaskin has had 48 carries and 18 catches...a lot more chances to show what he's got.

Breida definitely has burst, he's got years of NFL game tape as evidence of his speed. So that's not really in question. Howard doesn't really have burst and hasn't for years. He also doesn't have enough power to really deserve a specialist role either.

If Tua ever gets the call you want the back that's best in pass protect. Is that Gaskins? It is puzzling that Grier decided on the FA/Trade route for Howard and Brieda. I know the majority of the board thought an RB should be drafted. I know I thought we'd get 1 of about 6 good ones. Next draft?

I don't qant him in the 1st and I'm not sure if I want to trade back into the 1sr rd to get him.

I'm still deciding if Igbonoghene has me gun shy, or given me PTSD.

Breida may have straight line speed for days. But so far I've only seen 1 running back on the roster showing any burst between the tackles.

Breida needs to take advantage of the snaps he does get.

I'm not against a first round pick RB under a couple of conditions... 1) Is is late in the first round and more importantly 2) Is he the piece that greatly improves your offense.

Right now, I would argue that our offense is in with the exception of RB and slot WR.

I might take him in the right situation. Whether that is with pick 1B, or by trading up a bit from 2A. He's my guy and I'll pay a bit extra for him... not to the level of those who wanted to trade 3 first round picks for Tua... but a bit.

I don't think Breida has had much chance to show it. He's been running into fronts which haven't allowed much opportunity to display burst.

For the first three weeks we were using Gaskin on a lot of passing plays while if Breida or Howard were coming in it was far more likely to be a run. This has led to them facing more stacked fronts. I think the team made an effort to hide this today, but our gameplan was very, very pass heavy today.

I really don't know if in the long run Preston Williams isn't just a rotational receiver. Look at what Seattle and Buffalo have done to us in recent weeks. Their #2 guys brought top level skills that Preston doesn't have, and they went 3-4 deep with guys who can make really good plays on a level with Preston.
