Armando: Feeling among team sources, changes of significance coming

I said it in the game thread and I'll repeat it here:

I'll tell you, if I'm Ross and I paid out 110 million in new contracts, had five picks in the first three rounds - and the best this front office and coaching staff can muster is 8-8 I absolutely clean house. Everyone goes. Everyone.

This! Spot on, no one from Ireland on down to the assistant coaches should be back next season. Sucks to have to start over again but really there is no other logical choice. This time do it right. Find a GM that actually has a clue and let him hire his own coach.

changes coming.. bullsh#t. Ross ain't gonna do nothin'. dude is the most soulless, balls-less owner in the NFL. Chud was a dud in Ohio.. what'd their owner say?

"Our fans deserve to see a consistently competitive team. We have high standards, and there's an urgency for success. When we believed we were not positioned to achieve significant progress in 2014, we knew we had to admit that a change was needed, and move forward."

that's a guy with 'nads! good/bad, he spoke to the fans in word and deed. Steven Ross does not have the soul of Miamians in mind; he's not a Miami guy... don't care what he says. for things to change, he needs to sell and move on. sell to a Miamian who cares about Miamians! not some mercenary interloper from a rival city.

we want a better team? change the ownership.. he's what's wrong!

Ireland will be sacrificed. People will be happy, but it will not change anything.

Mando's last paragraph was right on. The talent was fine at 8-6 and charging toward a playoff birth. They choke the last two....and now the talent sucks?

I am not an Ireland guy, but I feel for somewhat.

To bad we don't play 14 games and that a full season of 16 games is how you judge talent. We are a .500 team with average talent. We played up and down all season. Won the first 3 and went on to lose the next 4. Traded wins and loses the rest of the way until the end.

It is funny how we lost to the Bucs and Bills earlier in the year and the problem was talent. Now we lose to the Bills and Jets with the playoffs on the line and the talent was there, but the coaching was bad.

The idea that the team's overall talent level 'is fine' is crazy to me.

The OL is a disaster, our backs are not very good, and we don't have a big tall TE who can play off the line and threaten the seam. We do not have good linebackers. We have huge question marks in our secondary.

The idea that firing Ireland will not change anything is just laughable. Of course it will change something. It will change person responsible for constructing the roster, which in this case is very likely to be a good thing. While it's possible we could do worse by hiring the next Matt Millen, it's much more likely that we will do better and hire someone who doesn't leave us with multiple Titanic-sized gashes in our roster each season.

yeah! what he said

Ireland wil be sacrificed, b/c its good media fodder for the bullying thing, and great fan fodder for no reason at all.

But in the end, the team was not void of talent, and was poised to make the playoffs. THE COACHES FAILED US.

Either way, Ross is not a good leader, and makes horrible football decisions. Therefore, he will fire ireland, allow the current horrid staff to stay in place - the new GM will immediatly make philbin a lame duck and piss off some guys who thought they'd be here for long-term, making the whole team basically lame ducks, thus, insuring a losing season again in 2014, and then a few rebuilding years.

While i dont hate the thought of a new GM - i think Ross either needs to keep everyone (besides sherman), and fire them all next season, or he needs to get rid of EVERYONE now. Either decisiion is good with me, but we can't keep up this staggered nonsense, where we keep setting ourselves back a few years by handcuffing either the coach or the GM or the players.

Also - People can hate all they want - but Tanny is the Franchise QB - and another year of uncertainty, followed by a coach, or next year a GM, who wants their own guy just for the sake of it, is killing that kid.

So yeah, more bad news no matter how you slice it, b/c Ross sucks. horribly.

I hope changes of significance include pink slips for Jimmy Wilson, Wheeler, Clabo, Martin, Incognito, Jerry, McKinnie, Sherman, Philbin, Coyle, Daniel Thomas, and Chris Clemons. I would love to see Tannehill, Carroll, Miller, and others lose their starting spots. They don't deserve to start.

Honest questions for those who feel Jeff Ireland is fine and should stay:

Do you believe that he put a competent receiving corps on the field last season? Do you believe that it was because of COACHING that we were signing and cutting a new starting boundary wide receiver every other week? Do you believe it's because of COACHING that we're stuck with Daniel Thomas at RB? Do you believe it's because of COACHING that our best seam threat is a guy who, while I like him a lot and think he's a very good young player, just isn't tall enough to go up and get the ball where it's got to be thrown there?

Is it COACHING that we have one good healthy cornerback on the roster? Is it COACHING that Reshad Jones was given a monster contract when, in fact, he sucks?

Do you believe it's because of COACHING that our OL is a trainwreck? Is it COACHING that the # of sacks per game dropped from 4.4 to like 2.5 the week Bryant McKinnie's 34 year old balloon knee'd corpse entered the starting lineup? Is it COACHING that our starting RG can't run block worth a damn because he's the ****ing blob or that we decided to address the RT position by signing an old tackle who was going to RETIRE if we didn't offer him several million dollars to come play one last season, and he was just plain bad? Is it COACHING's fault that we drafted a headcase and also had another headcase AND a gunrunner on the OL with him?

Because while I agree that there are some problems with the coaching of this team, look at what they freaking had to work with.

As bad as our OLINE was giving up almost 60 sacks, I am amazed that Tannehill had almost 4,000 yards passing and 24 passing TDs. Yet people still think he is a bust after 2 years......LAME sauce. Just imagine how many yards he would have had 1/2 those sacks not exist? How drives would still have continued? OLINE sucked a$$.

By the way, for those who say "everyone has to go" and "you shouldn't fire the GM but leave the coach," I present to you:

Exhibit A: the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers elected to fire their GM and keep Ron Rivera for a third year. They are the #2 seed in the NFC with a first round bye.

I am not a big fan of Philbin, but many of the same things we have to say about Joe Philbin were said about Ron Rivera his first two years. 'Shotgun weddings' can work. Armando Salguero might have been floating the notion that both must be fired together when Philbin was popular to try to help his buddy Jeff, but the truth is that there is no reason not to allow the new GM to make that decision. And there is no reason why the new GM must decide to fire him.

i dont understand those who bash ireland but defend Philbin.

Clearly, both men are not good at their job, and keeping either is harmful to this franchise.

It is not EITHER/OR coaching OR GM - it is clearly BOTH.

yeah, there was no talen ton the OL - but apparently enough to beat 4/6 playoff teams in the AFC.

BOttom line is, with two games left, this team had 2 shots at the playoffs, and flat out SUCKED. THe cadence issues, the motivation issues, the execution, the regression, it is not all just on the GM. the whole regime needs to go. why pick sides? they all FAILED horribly. get them out of here.

I'm not really defending Philbin, but I am certainly bashing Ireland a lot more. And my reasoning is simple.

I believe that talent is much more important than coaching, and I also believe that this team does not have particularly good talent across the board. The fact that this team went 8-8 with talent I consider to be not particularly good is not an indictment of the overall job of the coaching staff, even though there are a number of individual things about the coaching staff that I find worthy of criticism.

Again, people act like it is coaching's fault that the pass protection was godawful. Tell me this, how come, if coaching was the big problem, why did the number of sacks allowed per game drop dramatically when McKinnie entered the lineup? McKinnie isn't even good!

You mean to tell me it was because the coaches suddenly started doing a better job that week? Get real.

I think everyone has to go because I have a feeling Philbin had his hand in a lot of the personnel decisions being made. He wanted Marshall, Dansby, Davis, Bush **** anyone with a voice outta here. The way he runs a ship dictated, I believe, what kind of players were let go and brought in. I'm no fool and think Ireland didn't have the final say, but I think as a working unit they both had a part in this roster the past 2 years. I think the coaches were a driving force behind the lb change that we all bitch about. Just my feelings obviously and have no inside info on that -just like everyone else here with their opinion. It's been an excruciating failure and just want no remnants left behind
