Assuming Ireland and Philibin are Done, Whose Next Up?

I am not a huge Cowher guy, but this a fit.

i will garantee that PHilbin is not done, I actually think he done a good job handling this situation. What is important is how the players around the league feel about the situation, and just about all the players side with the dolphins locker room. Philbin is not going any where.

We also played playoff caliber teams in the Bengals and Colts and beat both of them. We're 4-4 with a game against 0-8 team coming up. While I am not a strong supporter of Ireland and Philbin, I don't think we're out of it yet.

Beat them yes, destroyed them no. Colts game was saved by Grimes endzone interception & Bengals game was well Bengals were just sloppy & didn't seem at the races that day. We can't play like this & expect to win the Superbowl, which is ultimately where the team should be heading. If you're happy with an above .500 season then yes its a successful season for some. Anyway, I digress & feel I'm moving away from the thread topic.

Would love the Gruden boys, but I doubt Jay would be happy working under his brother when I'm sure other teams may give him a clear HC shot.

I guess we see now why Jim Harbaugh basically said stay as far away from me as possible. Ownership on down is a mess, At least no one remembers Ireland asking Dez Bryant if his moms a prostitute. On to the next toxic situation. I think Dennis Erickson fits in nicely with what the Dolphins have going on right now.

i think starting over is just dumb at this point, due to the fact that in another 2 years we will want to fire the new coach and GM. It is a vicious cycle that we cannot seem to get off at some point you need stability.

Greg Roman

I know Harbaugh is looked at as some sort of genius, but you don't make it in the NFL without great coordinators. Just like Shula had guys like Arnsparger.

Greg Roman is the mastermind behind the offense in SF. He made the whole transition from Smith to Kaepernick work, he makes the offense successful no matter what the roster is like, he understands how important the running game is, and he gameplans, he doesn't just roll out the same stuff for every opponant. He can develop Tannehill, instead of suffocating him.

I don't know where we're at. We're an average team. Sometimes we look worse than an average team, to be honest with you.

So, it's a disappointment. Yes, Philbin is a solid manager of sorts, a good guy, seemingly organized. But I feel like he talked a good game, more than actually having one. Some people just seem to interview well. But as some have pointed out on this board (one thread was moved to The Depths of the Sea for some reason), Philbin was not the O Coordinator in Green Bay, and he didn't develop any QB's. What did he actually do to justify this position? When he came here, the first impression I got was that he was not inspiring, but would be the professor-type. He would teach and develop players. He even said that himself. But are we developing Tannehill? Did they make the right call to put all their eggs in the Lamar Miller basket? Did they use Wallace to his full potential? Who have they developed, exactly,... Egnew?

The best players that come to mind to me, Philbin and Sherman had nothing to do with. Brent Grimes, Patterson, Wallace are free agents and they are doing their thing. Wake was BP (Before Philbin). Solai is BP. Hartline is BP. What other names jump out at you?

And then, it brings us back to the QB. That's a call no one can make right now. Maybe RT is going to make it, maybe he won't. but the fact that probably the only reason we have him is because Mike Sherman wanted him, doesn't fill me with confidence. I've not been impressed with how Sherman runs things. I actually like Philbin more than Sherman. But both their jobs will ride on Ryan Tannehill. So that young man has a lot on his shoulders.

Right now, with this whole Incognito FIASCO, and the previous purge of leadership on our roster, and the problems it directly caused, I'm not very happy with our coaching staff. Not at all. And while I was giving Incognito the benefit of the doubt and thought this was being overblown (and to some extent still do), it's apparent that there were problems with Incognito even last year that warrented them benching, or cutting him. It's shocking that a Philbin-led team would tolerate the golf club incident, in broad daylight. Can you imagine Jason Taylor or Zach Thomas doing anything like that? If you say, well that's how Incognito is, then the answer is, if you keep him on the roster you have him on a short leash. And what's baffling, the O line sucked, anyway, so how much were they actually losing? Guys like Vonte Davis, who wanted to pee, and Bush, who was a leader in the locker room, didn't qualify to be Miami Dolphins, but a guy like Incognito somehow did. It really makes me question their decision-making processes.

So at this point, I'm fine with a regime change, IF it's an upgrade. And there are coaching prospects out there, which would definitely be, over Philbin and Sherman.

This isn't about wins and loses. The political firestorm that that will affect the ticket booth and attempt at stadium funds will be too much to take.

Who cares about the media? Incognito and Martin BOTH will not be on the team next year. So what does firing the coach do? Nothing ,but bring more scrutiny on the team especially if they continue to win games.
I am starting to think that even if we did make the playoffs we still would want to fire Ireland or Philbin just because.
Some people cannot see the Forrest through the trees

It's not the media...it is the brand name of the Dolphins.

I want a blue collar football approach. I like how the 49ers, Seahawks and Ravens (last year) played. Run the ball, set play action to an athletic TE and vertical shots down the field. The defense needs to be physical. Lay your stamp on the opponent.

I never understood why Miami never totally committed to this approach. With the humidity in September and October, any team you can beat down with the run will wilt in the heat. Being a physical team also makes your game portable when going up against division foes in the winter months. Wanny and Tony went halfway to committing to such approach. Neither found a QB or felt weapons were important enough to help a team win.

I do not think Joe is committed to this approach at all as proven by decisions he has made this season. That is another issue I have with the current head man.

Its a media driven story imagine if this was some other team would you see so much coverage? i think not.

We don't even know the full story yet, but the details we find out make Jon Martin- not Philbin- look bad. Why are we discussing firing our HC? What if we go on a run late in the year? you still want to get rid of him?

Because like i said before some people just want to fire the coach and GM, because somehow it will vindicate that they were right all along.

I do not think it is necessarily Joe's fault all this **** went down. However, that report will say the team did not have a "proper work environment" and that will be laid at Ireland's and Joe's feet. They are done. It is not as if they have been so talented that it is a MUST to keep them...like Belichick and and Sean Payton. They are done, folks.
