Fire Ireland?

First all you need to do is look around the league at what happens when a new GM takes over. 90% or more of the time the team gets rebuilt from scratch. No GM wants to go down with another GMs players. Just the way it is and more often than not it doesn't turn out well.

Secondly I get the no ones irreplaceable. Its one of the reason I would be in favor or replacing Ireland if we had someone we knew was an upgrade.

90% of statistics are made up. Ireland is a poor GM by any metric and we could do much better than him, the risk vs reward is in our favor by replacing this boob.

So if the team doesn't need a complete rebuild and as we both agree the main need is Oline why replace the guy who put that all together out of spite? have a plan on how to improve.

I beg some of you that want irish's head on a spike to remember back to the years prior to him. Not the Shula years or even the JJ years but the "lost years" inbtween. Things could be a WHOLE LOT F&^%ING Worse. Be Careful what you wish for you might just get it...

This man has failed miserably in rebuilding the OL twice now. Why would anyone trust him to rebuild it a third time? This team isn't as talented as some of you people think. RBs are bad, no #1 WR, avg. TE, and horrible horrible OL and its hard for this team to score 20pts a week. I'm not worried about replacing the guy that has assembled this group after 6 years, tons of picks and millions of dollars.

FWIW, I actually think Ireland is coming into his own if you look at the big picture of how he drafts and signs FAs. Players with big upsides and high talent that might take a year or two to develop in the draft. Impact players in the FA. When guys like Clay and Jones start getting good in their thirds year or so while guys like OV get good in year two you have to wonder what the next few years look like as we build on this.

I also think many of us wouldn't feel the same if the fins got the same media love as other teams. Players talent here doesn't equal their media recognition.

His last draft and FA signings (outside of Grimes 1yr deal) have been the worst. #3 pick barely plays, none of the others picks can get on the field and his kicker is aweful. That drafts suggest he is making progress? He way overpaid for Wallace who isn't a #1 WR, he overpaid for AND downgraded our LBs, OL was not addressed. So for all the picks and all the FA money he had - he pretty much squandered it all. Just think if we had a competent GM who had all that at his disposal.

You look at the Jordan pick as a bad pick because he has had limited playing time. Thats your opinion so I guess thats fine. Teams who have good depth at a position as we do on the DE will always have players, good players fighting for playing time. Thats exactly where Jordan is right now. He was never going to start ahead of Wake this year and OV is simply balling out. However when on the field he has given every indication that he is going to be a stud in this league.

Ireland drafted a guy that doesn't really fit our defense and cant get on the field #3 overall. Its not like we are a great team loaded with talent. What I've seen on the field so far doesn't indicated to me that he is a lock to be a future probowler. I'm not even that down on this pick (high risk/reward) as I am on all the other countless bad decisions he has made.

No, he drafted a player with extreme talent that has shown he can not only become an elite pass rusher but can cover the big TEs that have been killing us. The amount of versatility a player like that brings to the table is mind boggling. His limited playing time is more due to being buried behind a Pro Bowler and someone whos having a pro bowl type season than any so called short comings on his part.

Completely disagree. I am very, very, very happy with picking Jordan at number three. He makes a big play every game with limited reps. He is going to be good.

Here is the reason Ireland is going to go and its not just the lack of talent everyone tries to bring up. This team talented than almost any team we have had here the past 12-15 years. You may disagree but if you study our rosters moving forward the Dolphins have not been an over the talent team in that period. So Ireland might stay if that was the only argument.

The reason Ireland goes is because he has been the eye of the storm since Ross took over the team. Ireland people skills have killed him. First Ross and Ireland getting caught publicly attempting to hire Jim Harbaugh while Tony S. was on board, you have the idoit Dez Bryantt saying his father is a pimp and Ireland taking the bait, Irelands understudying Aponte currently is undermining him, Parcells publicly will no longer endorce the guy, Ireland publicly getting caught call a obnoxious fan a ass, and this latest rub Ireland telling Martin agent that Martin should have hit Incog in the nose. I personally agree with a lot of what Ireland has done but it is the appearance of what the media has done with it that has cast a dark cloud over the organization. Sure we can have a more talented team and I am all for it but thats not the reason for him to go just to hope we can lure is someone better. Better offensive plays would help a lot in that department. Suddenly the offensive line is better is that all on Ireland. Do the coaches the play the players or the GM answer me that. Anyway that my opinion on the matter.

Ill gladly agree to OL not addressed to its fullest. However, I have to offer a few things-
1. Don't judge rookies starting as a measure of success. I believe the 49rs didn't have a single rookie start last year...the jests have 5+ this year. Like I said, he drafts with big upsides that take a year or two. Hartline, Clay, and Jones were all drafts from years ago that have obviously been playing well.
2. Wallace is taking a safety to cover him almost every play opening up the underneith. He will still prob hit 1000 yards and our WR TDs is way higher than last year. Can't deny how good Gibson was before injury. Jury is still out on Ellerbee and Wheeler for me.
3. We win 9 and get into playoffs we are on the right track. Our D has been strong while our O is still young and improving. The personnel is there though.

We'll see, too early to say for sure if he is going to be great or not IMO. It seems to me that he doesn't really have a real position in our current scheme. He is currently a situational guy, with no secondary pass rush move. I guess when someone is drafted #3 on a team lacking talent, I would expect him to be on the field.

Team lacking talent is way to generic and in his case simply not true. If he was going to play this year it was going to be as a DE or LB. The chances of him starting at LB was slim as its not a position he has a lot of experience in. DE is the only position I could of seen him starting and that position is a team strength. Lets also not lose sight of the fact he missed a lot of training camp and preseason while recovering from a shoulder injury.

The only way I could see your argument holding water would be if he was an Olineman and couldn't crack the starting lineup. Being behind OV and Wake on the depth chart in your rookie season is nothing to be ashamed of.

We are much close to the Jets talent level than the 9ers. This last draft appears to be a failure. Ireland has wasted every single 2nd and 3rd round pick he has ever had.
Hartline is vastly overrated on this board, he doesn't scare anyone and nobody game plans to stop him. He is just a solid possession receiver, nothing great.
Wallace is ok, but ok shouldn't be making 16m a year.
I think the jury has reached a verdict on our LBs, they are overpaid and wheeler sucks.
I am not sure O is improving. Passing game is a little better but our running game has regressed and we can't score more than 20pts a game.

Man Again I cant agree. The Jordan pick was a 1 and 2 and Koa Misi was a 2nd rounder. Both good to VG picks. And I still think Jamar Taylor is going to be a vg CB. Like Jordan he plays a position where have a LOT of good depth.
