Improved Offensive Line???

Why can't people just have different opinions than others? You think RT is the biggest issue, others think the OL is the biggest issue. Great. We get it.

But can we leave the RT debate in the dedicated threads? There's no reason to plague every thread with it.
When someone posts about “pocket presence” I’m going to reply with a justified answer.

Here's the thing I noticed. The cohesion of the O-Line has been much better since Swanson took over at starting center. The 1st half of the Bengals game was great. The second half was a different story, due Tunsil's absence from injury. Against the Bears it ALL came together for them. It's beginning to look like we all hoped. A solid if not spectacular Offensive Line. Injuries have hurt this unit. But having Swanson has seeming solified the interior. I hope they extend this guy. He deserves it!!

Just posted this in another thread. Seems apropos for this one...

My view is the OL can be a QB's best friend and a QB can be an OL's best friend.

One thing that isn't a controversy is that Tannehill is the OL's worst friend.

What I haven't heard much about is how well Osweiler managed the pocket yesterday compared to Tannehill. This isn't new as every other QB has outperformed Tannehill in that area. The numbers certainly bear this out.

Starting with Gase's tenure in 2016:

2016 - Ryan Tannehill = 389 att; 29 sacks = 1 sack every 13.41 attempts
2016 - Matt Moore = 87 att; 1 sack = 1 sack every 87 attempts

2017 - Jay Cutler = 429 att; 20 sacks = 1 sack every 21.45 attempts
2017 - Matt Moore = 127 att; 12 sacks = 1 sack every 10.58 attempts (7 sacks in single game vs NE; 34 att)
2017 - David Fales = 43 att; 1 sack = 1 sack every 43 attempts
2017 - Overall = 599 att; 33 sacks = 1 sack every 18.15 attempts

2018 - Ryan Tannehill = 129 att; 11 sacks = 1 sack every 11.72 attempts
2019 - Brock Osweiller = 49 att; 0 sacks = 0 sacks every 1,000,000 attempts :)

Overall since Gase took over in 2016:

Ryan Tannehill = 518 attempts; 40 sacks = 1 sack every 12.95 attempts
All Others = 729 attempts; 34 sacks = 1 sack every 21.44 attempts

If this isn't prove that Tannehill severely lacks awareness and urgency within the pocket, then I don't know. Any whiff block or breakdown and Tannehill is going to exacerbate that more often than not.

It's either that, or you believe that the offensive line coincidentally blocks far worse on average when Tannehill is starting lol

EVERYONE needs to read this. Well done, sir.

I was just responding to another post in a different thread about the OL. Our OL was improved over last week's 4th quarter, no doubt, but our OL play was pretty decent prior to that infamous 4th quarter. But despite a better OL Tannehill still got sacked in every game. 6 sacks in 3 games.

The reason why we had 0 sacks yesterday includes a better OL play but you cannot overlook the fact that Osweiler changed the protection on almost every down to either give himself more time or open up holes for the run game. In addition to that his release was quicker at times and he knew when to simply throw the ball away.

Over the years I always contended that a QB can elevate the OL. I would bet money on it that Ryan would have had at least a couple of sacks yesterday.

Ryan Tannehill in 2016 after cutting Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner - 233 attempts; 12 sacks = 1 sack every 19.42 attempts

We should also look are RT for his career. It would be atrocious. Just like his overall career.

This is well done and blatantly shows what is obvious to the eye for years.

Those numbers are eye opening. Do you have a points per game using the same criteria Tannehill vs. everyone else?
Points per game if calculated need to be offensive points per game. Not special teams and defensive scores.

Really? So if he can’t react to that kind of break down it’s everyone else’s fault except the QB? Come on man, you have to admit his record as a starter leaves much to be desired.
RTs record as a Miami starter
2012. 7-9
2013. 8-8
2014. 8-8
2015. 6-10
2016. 8-5
2017. DNP
2018. 3-2
40 wins-42 losses
I know you’re a diehard Tannehill fan and I’m not going to fault you for that but you have to put some of the blame on Him, not just “whiffed blocks” by an o line.

You should seriously change your name to “TannehillFanInBuffalo”
It’s like hundreds of rats in a room. The exterminator comes in and starts herding them all to a corner. Many flee but the exterminator continues forward. Until one is left.
