Just posted this in another thread. Seems apropos for this one...
My view is the OL can be a QB's best friend and a QB can be an OL's best friend.
One thing that isn't a controversy is that Tannehill is the OL's worst friend.
What I haven't heard much about is how well Osweiler managed the pocket yesterday compared to Tannehill. This isn't new as every other QB has outperformed Tannehill in that area. The numbers certainly bear this out.
Starting with Gase's tenure in 2016:
2016 - Ryan Tannehill = 389 att; 29 sacks = 1 sack every 13.41 attempts
2016 - Matt Moore = 87 att; 1 sack = 1 sack every 87 attempts
2017 - Jay Cutler = 429 att; 20 sacks = 1 sack every 21.45 attempts
2017 - Matt Moore = 127 att; 12 sacks = 1 sack every 10.58 attempts (7 sacks in single game vs NE; 34 att)
2017 - David Fales = 43 att; 1 sack = 1 sack every 43 attempts
2017 - Overall = 599 att; 33 sacks = 1 sack every 18.15 attempts
2018 - Ryan Tannehill = 129 att; 11 sacks = 1 sack every 11.72 attempts
2019 - Brock Osweiller = 49 att; 0 sacks = 0 sacks every 1,000,000 attempts :)
Overall since Gase took over in 2016:
Ryan Tannehill = 518 attempts; 40 sacks = 1 sack every 12.95 attempts
All Others = 729 attempts; 34 sacks = 1 sack every 21.44 attempts
