Intro to Hunter Long TE :RD 3

I don't think there is even a single metric that even comes close to Gesicki's numbers. I sure hope Grier doesn't think that Hunter Long is a Gesicki replacement. We gave up an All-Pro FS because we were stupid ... I'd hate to break up literally the best performing TE group in Dolphins history simply because we don't properly appreciate the guys we have.
We all like Gesicki but don't overrate him. Remember how we went through all last season with him playing and felt like we didn't have any weapons? It's because for a pass catching specialist he really struggles to get separation, and he also doesn't have a frame where he boxes out defenders like you'd really want from a tight end. He's easily taken out of a game, and early in the year we threw a lot of picks on balls where Fitz was hoping Gesicki would play like a normal TE would. And also he doesn't block.

He makes fricking great catches- some of the best I've seen. His radius is just terrific when taking that into account. He can make big plays. He can be a component in an offense.

If he ends up somewhere else, it won't be because the team didn't appreciate him. It will be because he is likely to get vastly overpaid by someone.

Remember - it felt like we didn't have any weapons and we had him on the field. If he has another year like this last one, he's going to have some team out there pay him at a rate commensurate with a guy who should be a weapon regardless of what's around him. That's what can make it hard to keep guy like Gesicki.

I hated to lose Charles Clay in the Philbin era, I remembered drafted him and had been hoping he'd deliver on that potential when he got the big chance by default after injury to Keller. But immediately after signing that contract with Buffalo Clay became a noose around their neck, and never came close to living up to it. Gesicki might end up the same way.

I actually like this pick. We can run 2 tight ends. This guy catches a lot of balls but he has the size to stay in and block on pass protection or seal the edge on run plays. I think that it will help us draw up schemes that help us a lot on the offensive side. We have a one year stop gap on the roster who started 8 games at C for the Ravens. I’m sure that there will be training camp cuts that we pick through for depth. I just hope that these guys all stay healthy.
Except his scouting report essentially said, in so many words, that he's a ***** bitch when it comes to blocking, so, we now have 2 TEs that cant block.

Not the pick I would have made, but the kid is a solid TE prospect. Having an in-line TE that can hold his own blocking and contribute in the red zone is nice for a young QB. Not a sexy choice with guys like Meinerz, Carter, Gainwell, etc. still on the board, but I could see him being a valuable asset down the road. We can move on from Smythe and Shaheen when their contracts expire (Smythe is on the last year of his rookie deal and needed a new contract).
His scouting report said 'holding his own blocking' is what he can NOT do.

Should be a great Red Zone threat. Face it, when Smythe and Gesicki were both on the field in the red zone, you knew it was going to be a fade to Gesicki. Durham Smythe is a JAG, and this is a solid upgrade.
Smythe was a blocking TE that didnt drop TDs when theown to him.
This is a horrible draft pick.

This pick tells the whole roster: when it's time for a raise, we cut or trade you.

Okay, this pick I don't get. I have loved all the other picks but this one had me scratching my head. To be honest I know nothing about this kid, so I can't say I hate it; I just don't know.

Actually, I only remember feeling that way when Fitz wasn't in the game.

Doesn't everyone say it takes 3 years for a te to be good. So he will be good in 2025? Lol... what a great pick. ****ing grier...

What I read was that he played high or kept his head down but that he was an enthusiastic blocker. Which basically just means that he needs to be coached up. I also read that he’s a good blocker in space, keeping his head on a swivel and creating opportunities for his teammates downfield.
