Mystery Interviewee - Saints Dc Dennis Allen

For what it's worth, it is not uncommon for college head coaches to be interviewed in secret for NFL head coaching vacancies. If they don't get (or take) the job, they don't want their recruits to know that they have been thinking about jumping ship.

It is entirely possible that Dennis Allen is being given a decoy interview so that Miami can interview a college coach who is meeting them in Louisiana.

COACH O BABY!

We're going to end up with a turd. Nobody respects this organization. We'll end up with a yes man for Grier, which is worst case scenario.

I think this is a good interview to see what he is about as he has a proven track record in New Orleans with what he did with there defense.

Not every interview is one in which we are expecting to make an offer. Sometimes good franchises interview people just to get their perspective on our personnel and how they see our situation and how to improve it. The flip side of that coin is that it IS an interview, and if the guy dazzles them, he will typically be called back for a 2nd interview. I'm guessing this is one of those. Undoubtedly he has done a great job with the defense in New Orleans this year, and that's really been the big change that allowed them to make the jump from a decent team to a dominant team. It is understandable that we would want to hear what he has to say about our current personnel, division, potential changes, and what he envisions the future to be like for the Dolphins.

It's good to hear multiple perspectives from people who have something to gain by giving you good advice. To these guys it is a shot at their dream … they're giving you their best insight, and these are the guys who understand the NFL inside and out. Getting someone who is in the NFC helps because he isn't really giving away any trade secrets, because they rarely play us, and he's talking about OUR team not his. Just like Vic Fangio, Rex Ryan, Kris Rishard (sp?) and all of the other defensive minds we are interviewing … this is valuable information. Regardless of who we offer and who accepts, Chris Grier and the staff is soaking in all of this insight. It will be used down the road regardless of who we end up hiring.

Being 7th out of 8 for desirable opportunities gave me little hope to begin with

Good franchises!!!?

Two 4-12 seasons with the Raiders and was fired with a record of 0-4 in his third season.
Pete Carrol finished his first season with the Jets at 6-10 and was fired. The Jets have been stupid for a long time, but how stupid do the Jets look now? People can grow and change. People can learn. Allen has obviously done a fantastic job in NO and hopefully learned a lot from Sean Payton. WE SHOULD NOT HIRE ANYONE WHO DOES NOT HAVE NFL HEAD COACH EXPERIENCE. PERIOD. When will we ever learn

And Belichick was 36–44 with Cleveland

Dennis Allen's first head coaching gig was a full rebuild in Oakland, so his "poor" win-loss there is down to him having to do the dirty work. His successor, Jack Del Rio, got the benefit of the foundation set by Allen. So perhaps what we see in Dennis Allen is someone that can lead a full rebuild? What we might also like is the work he's done with the Saints defense. Granted I'm not excited by this news, but I can see why we might have interest in him. Just like if we had interest in Gus Bradley. He's been part of a full rebuild and has the personality and work ethic to get through one. He's also done a good job as the Chargers DC since leaving Jacksonville. Again not an exciting candidate, but if we are going into rebuild mode then our choice of candidates will be significantly reduced because of the likelihood of a poor win loss record and questionable long term prospects.

The plane is not going to New Orleans anymore.. Back to Morristown NJ
