Tannehill Having Best Year Of His Career.

As un-athletic as Eli Manning seems to be, we all saw him extend a play in the SB against the Patriots that set them up for the upset (Tyree catch). I can't recall a time I've ever seen Ryan Tannehill make that kind of play despite being a better, stronger athlete.

Seriously?

Steelers game in 2016 50 yard pass to Gray? Doesn't ring a bell? Jump to the 50 second mark in this clip for a refresher:

Ridiculous escape and run for a first down against the Chargers? Nothing?

After the meltdown in the Bengals game and seeing the offense perform better without him against the Bears, I was about ready to give up on Tanne for good, after years of unconditional support. However, he has played very good and efficient football these last few weeks, in spite of the shoulder injury. I'm cautiously optimistic that he might finally be consistently good if he stays healthy and confident, which is enough to win with, even if he'll never be a pocket magician like Rodgers or Marino. I would say no to Bridgewater or any other free agent stopgap at this point. Just find a decent backup and draft defence and OL in 2019, it's not the year to take a qb high anyway. Give Tanne another year to see if he can keep it going. If not, do whatever it takes to get a top qb in the 2020 draft.

While I appreciate what you are saying, I'm sick of the "give Tannehill another year to see" mentality. Another year to see what? If he can overcome an overall bad team and make the playoffs? win a championship? IMO, he led a very mediocre team to the playoffs in 2016 and he is giving a worse team to a chance to make the playoffs this year. The idea that this team will compete for a championship with any QB is laughable (see Rodgers, Aaron. Green Bay Packers 2018-2019).

Doesn't it occur to anyone (not singling you out) that it is BIZARRE to be talking about a QB overcoming the rest of the team (especially the OL) for all these years? Why the f**k is that still necessary?

Wow tough crowd. You'd swear Tannehill was 4-12 his last 16 games with half of them ending like the fourth quarter against the Bengals rather than 12-4 and 13-8 overall under Gase.

This isn't a case of a HOF defense carrying Trent Dilfer.
He has the third highest TD % this year, fourth qtr comebacks every other game all with an average at best OL that specialises in whiffing on blocks or drive killing penalties at the worse moments and a Matt frickin' Burke defense that can't stop offenses moving the chains.

All this talk about needing All-pros in every position to succeed and yet the same people moan about how we lack talent and yet he's still winning under Gase.

It's not pretty, we're not blowing out teams yet but if we can get an OL that can stay on the field, clean up the mistakes and penalties and have an actual legit NFL defensive co-ordinator we're going to get alot more comfortable wins going forward.

All in all though we still need to groom a young QB instead of Osweiler and Fales to come in for Tannehill as our OL has shown itself just as capable of knocking him out of games than opposition defences.

For good measure, what this highlight reel every time you doubt Tannehill:

Another year to see if he can stay healthy and consistent in playing at a level close to the one he showed in the last 3 games. I didn't say we should keep making him try to overcome bad teams and expect him to win championships. If he had stayed healthy in 2017, we would have probably known by now if he is a true franchise qb or not. Maybe 2018 was meant to be his year, but he got injured again after a few games in which he wasn't bad but not really good either and since he came back he's been very good. I'm not blaming him for the injuries as we all know they happen, but it is what it is and that's why I think we should be cautious going forward. I'm not saying replace him, if he keeps playing well in the final games you clearly give him next year, but what if he gets injured yet again or if he has 5 or more games like the ones vs the Patriots or Bengals this year? I mean almost anything is possible with him at this point. I'm just hoping for the best and interested to see how he finishes the season.

chancing a ring. minn went out and got qb. GB goal was to go to sb with arron rodger. they just fail to produce. result firing there head coach..
Minnesota went out and got a QB. Who struggles with a bad OL. Surprised?

After the Patriots game, there were quite a few posters here who had been down on him for a while giving him credit for that game, which IMO shows they don’t have an anti Tannehill agenda (Martel13 for example).

There’s still a few left who will only give him credit when he is throwing 70 yard darts into triple coverage with four defenders draped all over him every single time. I mean all other QBs do it all the time, why can’t he?

He has a passer rating of 102.67 over the last 16 games with 29 TDs and 11 INTs, while leading a no better than average team to a 12-4 record. What, exactly, are you looking for?

If the previous 16 games haven't convinced you, the next three will not either.

Like I said, I'm looking for health and consistency. And I also hope he can somehow improve his ability to move around and buy time in the pocket, although I won't get into that debate, it's already been talked about enough. The 16 games you mention happened over a span of almost 3 seasons because of injury, so I'm not sure you can count it as a regular NFL season of 16 games and a 12-4 record. What if he gets injured again next year and misses say 8 games, do you still automatically keep him as a franchise qb, ignoring the 2020 class? That's why I want to see what happens this year and next before I reach a definite conclusion, and I believe that is reasonable.

To be fair, its not a big number. And its really not difficult to figure out. Just look in every thread, and they pop up. While this team rightfully has given us reason to be a bit negative, I am talking about the few who will be negative all day and in every post.Trying to be negative after yesterday takes effort....pretty much all I am trying to say
I've expressed this several times in the past and certainly it doesn't apply to all of them.

I believe for a bunch of people whose personality default is negativism, the team and specific whipping boys are convenient venting surrogates they use to let their "freak flags fly" anonymously rather than wearing out their welcome in their IRL circles. It's more of a pathological personality issue in general for those essentially who are happiest when they're unhappy.

Another serious injury or finding an elite prospect should be the only things that put Tannehill's status in question.
