i find it hard to believe that our draft board is public knowledge...and i find it hard to believe before sitting down with the kid he would be at the top of our board... but if its true we really liked ole kaepernick newtons a much better prospect with a similar skill set so why wouldn't we like newton

and i sure as hell hope that 3 second buzzer swims with the fishes that henning and sparano like to employ with the qbs in camp...whomever the hell we bring in via the draft

This is why I said that "the facts are on the film" reguarding Cam Newton.. He's always been a pocket passer going all the way back to high school..

Gus Malzahn designed his offense around Cam Newton's rare talent as a runner. You HAVE to be able to run the football in the SEC to come out on top. He was asked to do more from a pocket passing perspective in high school than he was in Malzahn's offense at Auburn.

The only case I can make for myself in favor of Cam Newton is this...

You're not going to get anywhere by AVOIDING the quarterback position and going bargain shopping as Miami likes to do...

..and secondly, there's really no quarterback in this particular class that's CLEARLY worth passing up Cam Newton for.

There's certainly guys that I'm more comfortable with for a variety of reasons, but the bottom line is,.. I don't view any quarterback in this class as a legitimate franchise caliber quarterback.

If you're going to just take a blind stab at potential and cast aside the bust factor, you might as well make Cam Newton that guy.

You're not getting anywhere by NOT busting out on quarterbacks...

I think David Lee took that stupid thing down to Oxford with him. John Beck still has nightmares about that thing.

Thats pretty much my reasoning. I dont see a hell of a lot of college games and I sure as hell dont scout them, but I watched enough to know that Newton's athletic ability is off the charts. Yeah, there have been a lot of other players who have all the ability in the world, but just cant put it together at the next level. I get that. I understand the concerns. But Im just tired of watching ****ty QB play year after year after year. If we take a stab at greatness with Newton, whats the worst that can happen? We end up with a ****ty QB? We have nothing to lose.

I'd be elated.

Ditto. God forbid we get a QB that has more than one dimension. I wouldn't mind seeing a QB that can extend plays leading to big play opportunities like Rodgers and Vick can on just about a weekly basis.

This. We're nothing without a QB. It's time to stop bargain shopping for QB's. We've been doing it since Marino retired to no avail. It's time to take a chance on greatness. Newton obviously has things to work on, but he has all the potential in the world too, and that very much outweighs the negatives for me.

Um you waste a 1st round pick in the draft and possibly your 3rd if your moving up...

When we are in dire need of speed and explosive players, yes MUCH can go wrong.

If he succeeds we got a great QB. He fails and we can use him like an Aaron Hernandez . Win-win situation.

oh no, maybe its all smoke and mirrors so someone ahead of us could pick him, so colin k could drop to us

That pick was just gonna be another lineman or a possession receiver anyway.

Speed and explosive players are going to do us real good with ****ty QB play.
