Yup. They drafted Anthony Davis and Mike Iupati with the 11th and 17th overall picks in the 2010 draft. And promptly went 6-10. They also drafted a left tackle in the first round of the 2007 draft. That was followed by 4 straight non-winning seasons.
It was only after drafting a dominating pass rusher and getting improved play out of their quarterback, receivers, tight ends, and (of course) coaching did they start winning consistently.
People can keep coveting the idea of building the football equivalent to the Great Wall of China in front of our quarterback, but it wont much matter if our receivers are giving up on plays and whispering sweet nothings into the ground whenever a defender gets within 6 yards.
I hope to god Martin gets drafted in the 10-13 range. Just as i hope Robinson and Matthews are drafted in the top 5 range and Lewan is drafted in the top 10. Why? Because thats 4 more receivers or defenders that will slide down. Then, later, we can shore up the line with competent pieces as other teams are desperately digging through their scouting reports trying to find players that will help them put more points on the board.
