Official 2007 Florida Marlins Thread

If we can get great value for Dontrelle I would trade him, and use his money to sign Cabrera long term. Right now Dontrelle is probably the most overrated pitcher in the game, and he isn't a true 'ace' more like a #2 or #3 pitcher.

Anyway it was great to take 3 of 4 games, and the draft is tomorrow.
the d-train might not be a true ace but hes a fan favorite to a struggling fan base you guys want to trade him and wonder why we get 11,000 a night

and the marlins take a 3b in the draft

Out of High School so he won't be ready for awhile even tho he sounds just like Mike Lowell. I am happy with the pick. I was hoping to get Matt Laporta, But we did not cause he went 7th to the Brewers

on the bottom line it says we took 5 pictrues in the first round last year do you know who they are

Winning is more important than how many fans come out. If you notice in the playoffs we get a packed house.

Anyway the kid we picked in the first round today is compared to Ryan Zimmerman. He is only 17 but very polished as a player, could see him in about three or four years, he has a great glove that is already MLB ready.

Second round we took another high school guy who plays CF. He looks like he could be a steal, three sport athlete who could possibly go pro in Football, Baseball, or Basketball with enough work. Also 17 years old, not quite as polished so maybe four or five years till we see him in the bigs.

I'm big into the Marlins (not baseball in general, though) but I know nothing about the MLB draft. My question is.. were there any solid CF prospects available when we picked?

not last year, but we've drafted a lot of pitchers the last couple of years.

but here's who we've taken...

2006-Brett Sinkbiel: Top 100 prospect according to Baseball America. Already in Double-A. Struggling a bit, but has a nice sinker. Could become a closer down the road

2005-Chris Volstad-top 100 prospect. About 6'7. Single A, but looks like he'll be a stud

Aaron Thompson-Don't know how he's doing, and I think he's hurt right now, but has got a lot of value.

Jacob Marceaux-Struggled as a starter. Is being developed as a reliever

Sean West-Top 100 Prospect

Ryan Tucker-I believe he's hurt right now.

2004-Tyler Tankersly-In the big leagues as a lefty specialist. Looked like he'd become a closer, but got hurt and struggled at times this year.

We drafted another guy in either 02 or 04 (one of those years we got Hermida), but he's out of our farm system because of drug addictions.

I'm glad we took Dominguez, he's got great defense and a great hitter. Plus, he good be in the bigs soon. Miggy could/should move back to the OF due to his defensive disabilities.

in the first no, The two guys we were really looking at were the catcher from Georgia Tech that Baltimore took, and the guy the D-Backs took. In baseball a lot of the drafting has to do with signability since if a player doesn't sign within a year, they can re-enter the draft (Luke Horchever, last year's number 1 pick, was actually pciked by the Dodgers in the first 2 years ago). Scott Boras is a very hard negotiator (Stephen Drew and Jared Weaver almost didn't sign with their respective teams) and a lot of his clients tend to fall a lot farther than they should in the draft, but this year (suprisingly) they didn't fall.

Not really, the best available at the time was a late first round guy that would have been a huge reach.

The guy we took in the second round is a CF and he could be great, his main knock is that he played three sports (at a very high level I should add, could have played SG in college basketball and WR in football) so he was never able to truely focus on just one.

Extra info: He is about 6'5 I believe and averaged 19.3 points and 13.1 rebounds in basketball (not sure if I got the .3 and .1 right)

Marlins come back and beat the Rays! I don't think I have ever seen the bases loaded so much. It was a very nice win to get the Marlins back to 500

i know winning is more important butit shouldnt take us to makeing the playoffs to fill the stadium there many teams with worse records then us that get many more fans and if we keep geting 11,000 a night we might be winning in some other state.

There is about 0% chance we will move, Major League Baseball doesn't want us to move. They pretty much told our owner to find a way to stay in Florida because you're not moving.

Fans are supposed to come out no matter who is on the team, I'd rather win than pack the house. I agree though it shouldn't take playoffs to get fans to come out.

So what are the chances that Aaron Boone stays in the line-up when Jacobs comes back? Maybe move Boone to third and Miggy to the OF?

nice win for the marlins good outing for olsen
